I haven’t been one to really listen to podcasts until about two years into college. Music wasn’t cutting it, I was bored with my playlist, so I decided to give podcasts a try. I wanted something that was entertaining but also influential. I didn’t want to be bored to death, but I didn’t want to be so distracted that I couldn’t focus on my school work. Here are three of the podcasts that I believe got me out of my rut.
Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlin:
Yes this one is a bit basic, but hear me out. When it came to finding a podcast to start out with I wanted someone that I knew about and were pretty popular. I wondered since I liked Chamberlin’s YouTube videos, why wouldn’t I like her podcast? Emma talks about everything from her pet peeves, what she’s obsessed with using in her life to even more serious topics like the importance of a healthy relationship. It’s like having an older sister rant about all of her problems while you sit there and pretend you’re listening. Overall, I love Emma’s laid-back style where she expresses herself while the listener gets a look into her thoughts and feelings.
Tiny Meat Gang (TMG):
Gosh where do I even begin? Tiny Meat Gang, or better known as TMG, is Viners-turned-Youtubers Cody Ko and Noel Miller talking about anything and everything under the sun. If you don’t know their commentary style from their YouTube channels this podcast might be pretty confusing (especially if you play it in your car with your friends and they just look at you like “what on earth are you listening to”?). Personally, I was a fan of Ko and Miller in their Vine days before the platform ultimately shut down. The podcast is more about their comedic commentary on the topics they talk about, giving you the laugh factor of a podcast that isn’t serious in the slightest. Mostly, a feel good podcast where you don’t have to have a thought in your head while you listen.
Date Yourself Instead:
I stumbled across this podcast after following Lyss Boss on Instagram. At first I would see her posting about her podcast but I hadn’t really gotten myself to listen to it until I found myself down in the dumps about being single and the seasons changing from “hot girl summer” to “do cute fall things with your significant other”. I wanted to see what she had to say and it honestly shocked me how much my perception changed. She talks about her experience with boys ghosting her, some of the red flags she ignored, and how to not compare yourself to others. Even though her episodes are only about twenty minutes each and I prefer longer episodes in podcasts, the information in them is pretty significant. A short and sweet podcast that I will continue to grow more in-love with.
Everyone has their own preferences on podcasts, what they like and what they don’t. Don’t get me wrong, I love my music and my playlists I’ve created, but once in a while I HIGHLY recommend stepping away from music and exploring the world of podcasts.
