Annually, the Cabrini community nominates and votes on two students that represent the school with the college’s name in their title. That’s right, Mr. and Miss Cabrini.
After weeks of competing in Penny Wars and promoting themselves throughout campus, the votes are in from the pageant.
Many appearances and performances later, your Mr. and Miss Cabrini are Dan Luner and Mary Kate Moran.
After giving a killer dance performance, Moran was so excited to be crowned as the new Miss Cabrini. Nominated by Campus Ministry, Moran would describe herself as thoughtful, caring and fun, as was said in her Campus Cutie article.
Dan Luner, senior communication major, took home the title of Mr. Cabrini. Luner was excited to be involved in the competition and had also been nominated by Campus Ministry.
After being photo editor for the student-run newspaper the Loquitur, running his own photography company and classroom coaching for photography classes, he showed his photography and video skills as his talent.
“Being Mr. Cabrini means a lot to me,” Luner said. “I’m a firm believer that you don’t have to have the official title to be a ‘Mr. Cabrini,’ but it will definitely be fun to represent the school in this role for this year.”
Luner also had the privilege of celebrating his birthday on his first official day as Mr. Cabrini.
“Being named Mr. Cabrini on the eve of my 22nd; the next day was a big celebration,” Luner said. “Everywhere I went on campus, I had someone congratulating me or wishing me a happy birthday. It made me feel really special, which I don’t admit too often, but it was certainly a special day.”
Being pageant winners, Luner and Moran are honored to have been chosen for this prestigious position. In addition to having an elaborate title with their name, they continue the Cabrini tradition of doing something extraordinary.
Although the pageant was fun and exciting, it required a lot of time on the students’ already busy schedule. An exhausting experience, Luner said his favorite way to celebrate was with some sleep.
“The night of the pageant was long with classes and meetings beforehand,” Luner said. “It was nice to relax and get some rest, but this weekend I will probably head out with my family for dinner to celebrate both occasions.”
