Wonder is a movie based on Raquel J. Palacio’s book (of the same name) that follows the lead character, August Pullman through the 5th grade- his first year at school. Where this story differs from others is that August has Treacher Collins Syndrome, a rare condition that effects the development of bones and other tissues of the face. Throughout the film, August navigates new friendships, his family, and bullies, as a kid who experiences the world differently. The film also peers into the lives of those around him such as his sister, best friend, and mother whose worlds have also changed since August came into their lives. So why should you go see it?
- It is a movie for any and all ages. Take your friends, your family, the kids you babysit- anyone.
- The message is amazing. Message #1: you never know where someone is coming from or why they do the things they do. So, don’t judge someone too harshly without having walked in their shoes.
- There is a Christmas scene- thereby making it a perfect movie to go see this holiday season.
- The kids in it are just so darn cute. I want to adopt each and every one of them. Is that weird?
- It brings out all of your feels. I cried from the beginning through to the end of the movie. Happy tears and sad tears both made an appearance.
- This movie may just inspire you to change the way you see a person in your life for the better.
- The book is amazing too, but not everyone has time to sit down and read it.
- It is directed by Stephen Chbosky. If his name sounds familiar that is because he wrote The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Another amazing book and movie that challenges the way we see and act towards people.
- Did I mention the message was AMAZING? Message #2: being kind is one of the most important things you can do in this world. #choosekind
- You will leave the theater with love and acceptance in your heart.
