Senior peer advisor and Young Life College leader Ashlee Bowen truly does it all. From lifting people up through her faith and love of Jesus, to joking around with her peer group about her love of Monday’s, ducks and apples, you can always find a smile on her face.
Name: Ashlee Bowen
Year: Senior
Major:Â Education and Youth + Family Ministries
Her Campus: What clubs and activities are you involved with on campus?
Ashlee Bowen: I’m involved in Peer Advising, and Young Life College. I’m also a part of 3G, and Lord of Life which is part of the campus ministry. I’m a convocator and an ambassador. I also am involved with Common Ground, which really helped calm me down a lot.
HC: You’ve been a PA for three years, and are on your fifth peer group. What do you love so much about it?
AB: I love how all of the groups are so different. It’s super cool because I love them all in different ways. They enhance my life. I saw a student from my peer group last year the other day and he asked me where his class is. It’s the same thing with the older ones. They’re just like friends now.
HC: How did you decide on your major?
AB: Well I wanted to teach kids about Jesus so that’s where the education part comes in, but I found that there are different ways to teach about Jesus other than through a classroom setting. You can teach kids about Jesus through ministry. It all works together. I just kind of keep adding things to my major, it never changes. God puts different things in my heart.
HC: What are you most passionate about?
AB: I’m most passionate about Jesus. It’s more than just that though. I’m passionate about my personal relationship with Jesus and truly knowing Him. I want other people to know Him and feel his life.
HC: What are your plans after college?
AB: Well, I have a few things that are lined up for me. I would like to keep working with Young Life or do mission work. It’s hard though. Every time I settle, I find something new. All I can say is God has me on a need to know basis.
HC: What’s something nobody knows about you?
AB: I love it when other people have the hiccups. I just lose it, I love it so much. Then I get the hiccups, and I’m just like okay, I deserved this.
HC: How has attending Cal Lutheran shaped who you are today?
AB: Attending Cal Lutheran has shaped who I am by presenting me with opportunities to take chances. It’s such a stable, encouraging environment. You feel responsible, and it shapes your confidence. It’s just like I’m going to do what I want, and the faculty and staff believe in you too. It’s a gentle confidence.
