Her Campus Cal Lutheran: How do you feel about being a campus cutie?
Genesis Rodriguez: I am completely flattered and honored! I was not expecting this title!
HC: Ultimate celebrity crush and why?Â
GR: Sam Hunt, he is such a babe!
HC: Where is your favorite place on campus?
GR: The dance studio on campus! I have spent multiple nights there practicing dance routines or choreographing some of my own and have made some wonderful memories in that space.
HC: What is your favorite TV show?
GR: 90210
HC: If you could describe yourself in one word what would it be and why?
GR: Optimistic; I always look for the best in people as well as try to make any situation a positive one!
HC: What are your deal breakers in a relationship?
GR: Bad communication, lack of respect, and not being goal-driven.
HC: What do you look for in a significant other?
GR: I honestly look for someone who can put a daily smile on my face, from a simple act of kindness to a grand gesture, and doesn’t get tired of it. I am always seeking new adventures and it’s incredibly attractive when someone can keep up with me!
HC: Â What is your favorite part about being a PA?
GR: I had an amazing experience with my peer group my freshman year, so it is so gratifying seeing my peer groups bond and have similar experiences like mine! Just knowing that I make an impact on these students’ college lives completely warms my heart.
HC: If you could be any animal what would it be and why?
GR: I would be a sea otter because they are adorable and have such a playful vibe!
HC: Â What made you decide to join D.M.C?
GR: I joined D.M.C. my freshman year, primarily by attending open dance practices and then joined the performance team in the spring. I honestly would not have been in D.M.C. if it was not for one of my best friends, Ale Posada, who asked me to join her to open dance practices! I have always enjoyed dancing and I definitely wanted to get back into the dancing world when I came to college, so it was very convenient that this club was offered when I came to Cal Lutheran.
HC: Â When did you start dancing?
GR: I began dancing at the age of 8 and continued on and off as I grew up. I also did gymnastics in high school and that definitely helped me strengthen my body to improve my technique and endurance!
HC: What is your favorite style of dance? Â
GR: JAZZ!
HC: What is your favorite program as a PA?
GR: I love orientation! It’s definitely a surreal feeling experiencing from a different viewpoint and not as a student. It’s also a little nostalgic because I start to remember when I first came to Cal Lutheran and was going through orientation!
HC: What made you want to be a PA?
GR: As stated previously, I had an incredible peer group experience my freshman year (we are seriously a family) and just wanted to pay it forward to the incoming classes.
HC: What are your plans after graduation?
GR: I am currently in the process of applying to graduate school for Spanish Literature/Chicano Studies! So hopefully I will be accepted into one of the schools I am applying to and will be pursuing my Masters Degree in Fall 2016.
HC: What will you miss the most about Cal Lutheran?
GR: I will definitely miss the community feel of CalLutheran. I came from a very big high school, so it was such a drastic change to have about 20 people in my classes when I used to 40+! I have made some amazing friends here due to the close-knit community here on campus and I will miss us all being in close proximity of each other.
HC: Â Do you have any advice for current Cal Lutheran students?
GR: Try something you have never done before! I am the biggest supporter that college is the time to try new hobbies or activities because these are your selfish and fun years, so completely live it up and get involved!
HC: What is your most memorable moment at Cal Lu so far?
GR: There are so many to choose from! I believe my most memorable moment was moving into my freshman year dorm. There was a point during the process where I thought “Am I seriously about to start living in a completely new city and begin my college career?!” It was a very surreal experience and it was also going to be the first time I was going to be away from my family, who I am very close to. However, it was also an eye-opening experience that I was going to be beginning some of the most memorable years of my life.
HC: Do you prefer to be behind the camera or in front of it?
GR: This is a tough one! As much as I love photographing (it’s a hobby of mine), I do also enjoy being in front of it.
HC: Â What are you hoping to accomplish during your final year at Cal Lutheran?
GR: I am not one to regret anything, so I am just hoping to have a fun final year here at Cal Lutheran, filled with great accomplishments and priceless memories with some of my great friends.
HC: Dream job?
GR: My dream job would be to be the head wedding planner at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu or the Viceroy in Santa Monica.
HC: What are your favorite hair care products?
GR: Tresemme Thermal Creations Heat Tamer Spray is my hair-saver! I am always heat styling my hair, so this spray helps my hair from completely frying!
HC: What is your favorite season?
GR: Fall!
HC: What are your favorite makeup brands?
GR: I love MAC products, as well as Maybelline mascara! E.L.F. also has some great products for a bargain price.
HC: Work out alone or with a partner?
GR: I love working out alone, because then I am able to do my routine at my own pace and level.
HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
GR: I see myself working as an event planner in Los Angeles or Arizona, hopefully also married and maybe starting a family of my own!
HC: Favorite band or music?
GR: I am a chameleon when it comes to music! I can be listening to Chase Rice songs one minute and then completely change it to some Drake songs in a second.
HC: Favorite Hobbies?
GR: I enjoy photography, as well as creating room décor!
HC: Favorite holiday?
GR: This will probably be a tie between Halloween or Christmas! I love dressing up and getting creative with costumes for Halloween, however I do also love the warmth and family-feel of the Christmas season.
