Name: Petra Rickertsen
Year: Sophomore
Major: Business Administration
The best place to find Petra around campus is, well, practically anywhere. From working late nights in the Student Union to helping with one of many clubs, this passionate young woman is involved, and a friend to all.Â
Look for a girl with curly hair, patched denim jackets, a bright smile and a constant search for adventure, and you have one of Cal Lutheran’s shining lights, Petra Rickertsen. Her many interests include theater, music, crafting, dance, and most of all, ministry. Petra is involved with Cal Lutheran’s Lord of Life and Interfaith Allies, delighting in Cal Lutheran’s diverse and inviting nature, welcoming the discussion and practice of religion in all forms.Â
Growing up in North Hollywood with her family, including a sister and a cat, Petra had a lot of fun being “30 minutes from everywhere.” She enjoyed going to museums, the arts district, and even bumping into celebrities. Petra has actually met The Office star Steve Carrell three times, including when he came to shows at her high school to see a family member perform. Formerly, Petra acted in shows like Joan of Arc, but now remains involved in theater by working in the Cal Lutheran costume shop, attending shows, and rocking out to Hamilton the musical during late nights in the Student Union.Â
For four summers, Petra has been a camp counselor with Lutheran Retreats, Camps and Conferences (LRCC) and has also worked as a part-time intern with an organization known as Fit 4 the Cause, based in Thousand Oaks. She loves acting as a leader and planning events, always asking for help if needed along the way. One day, she likely wants to work with a ministry or non-profit.Â
Falling in line with her adventurous spirit, Petra loves to travel. She has been to France, Great Britain, Canada, Mexico, Israel, and Jordan, along with the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Austria and Hungary all during a river cruise along the Danube. Here at Cal Lutheran, she is part of the Adventure Club, and also plans to study abroad in France. This summer, she took her first trip on her own when visiting a friend in Oregon.
Petra also enjoys dancing, zumba, and glitter glue, so talk to her about any one of these things, and you’ve got a friend indeed.Â
