It’s that time of year again! Whenever autumn rolls around, not only do I curl up on the couch with a chai latte, but I also revisit the fall playlist that I have previously made. Even though my playlist has a lot more than seven songs on it, seven went with the alliteration, so I had to take the opportunity. Now, let’s get into the music!
- “Bad Moon Rising” by Creedence Clearwater Revival
I love this song at any time of the year, but in the fall time especially. It reminds me of walking through a pumpkin patch or getting dressed up with my friends for Halloween.Â
Favorite lyrics: Don’t go around tonight/ Well it’s bound to take your life/ There’s a bad moon on the rise
- “Willow” by Taylor Swift
I have to admit, I did not love Taylor’s last two albums, but this song made it onto my fall playlist. It has such a chill, cozy vibe and her vocals are great.Â
Favorite lyrics: Wait for the signal and I’ll meet you after dark/ Show me the places where the others gave you scars
“Wait for the signal and I’ll meet you afer dark / Show me the places where the others gave you scars..”
Taylor Swift, “Willow”. folklore. Republic Records, 2019.
- “Maniac” by Conan Gray
Back to the up-tempo songs, Conan is one of my favorite artists currently and this song is a perfect song to scream in the car with your friends. I think I associate it with the fall time because that is when I first heard the song, and the word “maniac” gives me spooky vibes!Â
Favorite lyrics: Tell all of your friends that I’m crazy and drive you mad/ That I’m such a stalker, a watcher, a psychopath
- “Tire Swing” by Kimya Dawson
The Juno soundtrack is one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time. This song in particular reminds me of playing in leaf piles with my cousins as a kid. I love the softness of it.Â
Favorite lyrics: The sound of our voices made us forget everything/ That had ever hurt our feelings
- “Canyon Moon” by Harry StylesÂ
If you know me at all, you know that Harry Styles is one of my favorite people on the planet and that this playlist would be incomplete without him. I think that “Canyon Moon” has a great summer-fading-into-fall feel, and it also gives me road trip vibes.Â
Favorite lyrics: She plays songs I’ve never heard/ An old lover’s hippie music/ Pretends not to know the words
“She plays songs I’ve never heard/ An old lover’s hippie music/ Pretends not to know the words..”
Harry Styles, “Canyon Moon”. Fine Line. Columbia & Erskine Records, 2019.
- “Cherry Wine” by HozierÂ
I have been lucky enough to have seen Hozier live, and he is even better live. “Cherry Wine” is such a fragile song, and I think I associate it with the color burgundy, which I associate with fall. Such a beautiful song for a beautiful season.Â
Favorite lyrics: Sweet and right and merciful/ I’m all but washed/ In the tide of her breathing
- “Ophelia” by The LumineersÂ
This song reminds me of when I was in high school, hanging out with my friends on a chilly autumn day. It has the same calming feel as “Tire Swing” or “Cherry Wine,” and overall brings me such peace.Â
Favorite lyrics: Oh, Ophelia/ Heaven help a fool who falls in love
Hopefully, these songs will bring you the same sense of nostalgia that they bring to me. Let me know what is on your fall playlist this year, and I will definitely check it out!
