Simply Regal: Backwards Braid

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

Hello! I’m bringing you a super cute tutorial today on a braid that goes up the back of the head into a topknot. I love this look because it works for so many people. As a girl with shoulder-length hair, the braid helps keep up the smaller, baby hairs, if you will; for girls with longer hair, it helps add some interest to the typical topknot.

This hairstyle may seem complex but with some practice, it is definitely possible.

You’ll need: hair ties, bobby pins, and a brush or comb.

1.     Brush the hair out smooth and split in half at the ears.

2.     Flip your hair over and smooth it out as much as possible.

3.     Pick up a triangular section of hair at the nape of the neck and split it into three sections.

4.     Begin a Dutch braid, pulling the section of hair of under the center one. Incorporate hair from the sides so that you’re creating an inside-out French braid. Braid your hair to the ends and secure with a temporary elastic.

5.     Pull on the edges of the braid to make it look full.

6.     Flip the head over and pull it all into a ponytail at the top of the head. Release the baby elastic and undo the braid. Pull the hair into a topknot to show off the braid in the back!

Finish off the look with any accessories or hairspray.
