We’ve all been there. We know what we stand for but sometimes, arguments on Facebook, in class, during a walk for a cause can really get to us. We need to make sure we check in and ask ourselves if we are giving our personal good as much attention as the causes we are fighting for in the dark political times of today.

Here are some ways to do that:

1. The Youtube Blackhole: entertain your brain with funny cat videos from Pet Collective, watching hilarious Jenna Marbles videos and getting lost in Diversity’s dance choreographies.

2. Listen to some good relaxing songs that are tight right now:

3. Take a New Fitness Class: as a Cal Lu student there are a lot of choices (and even if you are not, you can probably find these classes being held around you!) Here are the class schedules for the Forrest Fitness Center. They offer Yoga, Zumba, Cardio Kickboxing, Pilates and even Bootcamp. Exercise is the best cathartic way to get rid of any stress or anger that the news can bring on.

4. Meditation or Even Sleep: Who knew ASMR could come in handy for taking your mind off political discourse and environmental catastrophes? I sure didn’t but when I found the Relax Sleep ASMR channel I’ve been sleeping like a baby. And trust me, I have trouble sleeping!

5. Hang Out at least once a week with a pet, or a friend: people can be overrated, especially when all you are trying to do is clear your mind but having a nice light-hearted discussion about the weather or even just playing video games can be a game changer if you’re feeling irritated lately. Petting cute puppies and kittens have always made my day, which is why I think that volunteering at VCAS could be a great relaxing job, even though sometimes cleaning might be part of the tasks!
