If you leave the house or dorms, hit too much traffic, can’t find parking, have to walk 20 minutes in the rain, show up to class cold and wet, and your feet look like those grapes you forgot to throw out, you may need a few tips this rainy season.
Hearing sirens about every 10 minutes on these rainy days is always disheartening and makes you want to stay in bed all day and ditch class. With these helpful tips from The Traveler’s Companies you can be safe on the roads.
1. Take your time. Slowing down is the only way to keep your vehicle from hydroplaning. Also remember that one of the most dangerous times to drive is soon after it begins to rain, as oils on roadway make for slick conditions. Waiting a few minutes, rather than rushing to your destination, can be a safer plan when it is raining.
2. Turn your lights on. Turn your headlights on to help other vehicles see you. Many states require the use of headlights during rain, even in broad daylight. (Yes, it is required in California.)
3. Give other vehicles more space. Add 1-2 extra seconds of following time in the rain, which gives you and the cars behind you more time to react to traffic.Yeah, it doesn’t rain often here in California, so when it does we need to be prepared!
Make sure you keep an umbrella in your dorm or car, you will wish you had one once you walk outside.Invest in a water-proof jacket and rain boots. You can look good and still protect yourself from the rain.
If you really don’t enjoy the rain, don’t worry, it’s California and the rain will probably be gone in an hour anyway! ;)
