Why Keeping a Journal is a Good Idea

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

Keeping a journal or diary may seem cliche, it may seem like it could take too much time, and it may be something you’ve tried multiple times already. Most of the time it’s difficult finding content to write down for each day. Luckily, there are little books out there that allow you to write one little memory or good thing that happened that day. I always tried to keep a journal but as soon as my mom got me a little book called “Every Day A Five Year Memory Book” everything changed. I was able to write down my favorite memory of the day and when I finally got through a year of it I was able to see the previous year’s memory! It’s like my own personal yearbook just without pictures. It’s even better if you start within your first year of college that way you have the memory of your whole college experience!

Here are some of the other benefits of having a journal/diary:

1. You will always be able to remember the little moments and sometimes those little moments can create big moments in the future.

2. It’s almost therapeutic because you get to release the day into your writing.

3. You can see your successes from previous years!

After you finish the five year memory book it can become something you can look back on for years!
