4 Ways to Stick to your New Year’s Resolutions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

We all know how easy it is to come up with a list of resolutions to enact starting January 1st, but it isn’t always as easy to stick with them. If you are truly determined to stick with your goals , then here are some steps you can take to make sure you keep your resolutions for 2020.

Make a plan

It is important to be creative and think of new resolutions, however you need to plan out how you’re going to make these plans a reality. Make a schedule of what you are going to do when. To make these resolutions a reality, you need to make them part of your daily routine.

Keep it realistic

Self-improvement is great but make sure you goals are attainable. You won’t stick with a resolution that is out of reach for you. For example, going from not working out all quarter to trying to work out everyday is too big of a change. Start small! Try to go to the gym twice a week for a month, then increase it from there!

Tell people about it

Let people know what you are planning to do this year! First, it will get you excited about it and second, it will keep you honest. When those around you are aware of your resolutions, they can give you reminders and encouragement along the way.

Journal or post about your progress

Keep track of your progress along the way and celebrate your accomplishments. You can journal along the way to keep track of your progress and how you’re feeling about it. Some people use social media as their platform to keep track of their progress. This is great because it helps the people around you keep up with your resolutions.

Whatever your goals are this year, you can stick with them. Just remember the reason you wanted these as your resolutions in the first place. This will help you make sure and stick with them, even when the year gets hard.
