It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. 6th grade? No, college.

Two papers due. Three midterms. One presentation. One math quiz. Four hours of sleep. Six bags of chocolate. No Netflix. Repeat…

We’ve all been there. That night before, “I’m not even hungry, but I’m going to eat everything in my pantry” moment. That “literally just can’t” moment. That “why did I sign up for this?!” moment. Whatever moment it is, you are not alone.

It’s easy to get stressed out with the amount of work we have to do as students. But the best part of getting stressed out is the de-stressing part! You made it through the week, and rightfully so, it is now your time to celebrate.

According to the article “10 Ways to Celebrate After Exams,” by The National Student, celebrating after your midterms is the perfect time to reward yourself after all the hard work and sleepless nights you have survived. Here are five enjoyable and doable ways to relax,

1. Have a party with all your friends.

No preparation is needed here, and it won’t break the bank. Ask people to contribute one thing: music, food, decorations, games, etc. Don’t stress yourself out as the host. Go into the night ready to have fun with your friends!

2. Pamper yourself.

It’s time to learn how to relax again — my personal favorite part of midterm aftermath. Spending a whole day in bed is the way to go, just because you can. You earned it. Relaxation comes in all forms. Do what makes you happy.

3. Have a night out.

That dance music is just what you need to get those “exam blues” out of your system! Go downtown or visit another city that has a lively nightlife. Getting outside the four walls of your room and seeing the outside world again is important! There is more to life than your computer screen and your math book, trust me.

4. Retail therapy.

Work out some guilt-free purchases and remember that you deserve it! Been eyeing that top in the window for a while now? It’s yours. Treat yourself to one purchase to flaunt after enduring a week of sweatpants and oversized t-shirts.

5. Go to a music festival or gig.

Look up shows at SLO Brewing Co. or research music concerts in the area! Let the therapy of music run its course and ease yourself out of your tense, hunched-over position you’ve adopted from sitting in front of your computer screen for so long.

Your mini vacation starts now! Take a few days this week to reward yourself for all the hard work you’ve done. It’s never a bad thing to be stressed, but always remember to let yourself unwind and celebrate the small victories you have accomplished. Enjoy!
