Campus Cutie: Dakota Greenwich, The Girl Who Does It All

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Name: Dakota Greenwhich

Major/Minor: English major, with minors in Graphic Communication and Linguistics

Relationship Status: In a relationship

Where are you from?

I don’t really have a hometown! My dad was in the army for 30 years and while growing up, I moved every 1-2 years. Before I moved to SLO, I lived in Chesterfield, Virginia for 3 1/2 years, before that, Ft. Knox Kentucky, and before that Wiesbaden and Baumholder, Germany!

What are you involved with on campus?

Quite a lot, and the list always seems to get longer and longer every year! I’m a student supervisor and student assistant at the Robert E Kennedy Library (I’m the chick at the front desk who gets you your textbooks!). I’m also a student assistant for a variety of professors in the English department, a secretary of the English club and I’m also the multimedia director, a writer, and an editor for this lovely organization, Her Campus!

Who are you dying to see in concert right now?

Seeing as I’ve never been to a concert before (well, a real one with lots of people and dancing in a huge arena), I’d go see ANYONE. But I wouldn’t object to seeing Daughter, the Temper Trap, The Who (they’re playing in May in Oakland…), or Gary Clarke Jr. Just to name a few.

Favorite place to eat in SLO?

My favorite place to eat in SLO would have to be, hands down, Thai Boat. They have seriously good tofu Param (veggies in a curry peanut sauce) and their customer service is off the wall.

Describe your ideal first date!

Hmm. It’s an understatement to say I love coffee. So an ideal first date would be a coffee date to a shop I haven’t been to, on a gloomy, rainy, cold day. I’d be majorly impressed if they ordered my coffee for me before I got there, and surprised me with whatever they thought I would enjoy and if we talked literature, favorite music, current events, maybe even running-I’d think the date was a major success.

Favorite show to binge watch on Netflix?

Hahaha this is embarrassing. Over the summer, I binge-watched the Vampire Diaries as a little high school nostalgia journey; I didn’t actually make it past season 4 (I think) but I plan on starting The Office (again) and finally finishing House of Cards!

What is your favorite quality in a guy?

Communication and vulnerability. I really appreciate when someone is willing to open themselves up to communicate and share what they are feeling to or for me, because nowadays, whoever cares the least seems to have the “upperhand” in a relationship. So much anxiety comes from wanting control in this type of situation, and to put yourself and feelings on the line to let them know how you feel, well, it says something to me about who they are as a person and who they would be in a relationship.

Is there something most people don’t know about you?

When I was younger, maybe middle school and high school age, I struggled A LOT with social anxiety and missing out on a lot of fun things with people I could have been really good friends with because I was too shy and scared of being seen as weird. I suppose that’s why I love books so much, because I’d stay in and read all the time. Now that I’m in college, I’ve made a pact with myself to do whatever I wanted, when I wanted, in an attempt to be unapologetically me and I’ve succeeded so far!
