Everyone knows that finding a niche is one of the hardest parts about going to a large university. Cal Poly’s Queer Student Union does just this by providing a safe space for LGBTQ students to be 100% themselves.

Their overall goals focus on improving campus climate for LGBTQIA students. Although this year marks only their second on campus, QSU has been actively building their presence. Between booths at Open House, hikes to the rainbow P for Pride Month, and advocacy for gender-neutral bathrooms, the club does not shy away from promoting inclusivity and intersectionality. QSU also joins with other on-campus organizations such as the Pride Center and Triota to help with events such as Pride Prom.

The club meets Fridays at 3pm in Building 180 Room 112, and they welcome students of all genders, sexualities, and identities. While there’s no obligation to be a member of the club, there are definitely opportunities for involvement and leadership. Some meetings follow agendas if an event is coming up, but QSU embodies a free and open space where anyone can hang out, talk, and make new friends.
