How to Survive Until Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

It’s hard to think about the fact that we still have a month of school left when every time we get on Facebook, another friend is posting about how they are already off on their summer adventures. Then we daydream about trips, days at a lake and catching up with friends from home.

Even if you have to work this summer and you know you’ll be ready to get back to school by July, it seems like summer will never come and you can’t wait. But we can make it!

Follow these simple suggestions to get you through the rest of the year.

1. Think about the fact that we basically go to a school that is forever in summer. SLO has great weather year-round and who needs it to be summer when we can go to a beach any day of the week?

2. Take a weekend to go camping with your friends. What reminds you of summer more than camping? Take a couple days away and have a temporary summer of your own.

3. Spend some time at the pool. Our pool is amazing, why would we want to be anywhere else?

4. Focus on your studies. Think about how good it will feel in a couple weeks to be done and know you earned amazing grades.

5. Sign up for a triathlon. This is what my friends and I are doing. We are spending the rest of the school year training and then competing this summer. This gives us something to occupy our time and look forward to.

Whatever you do, just know that summer is almost here.

But honestly, as soon as summer starts, I know I will be waiting for school to start again. I will miss all my friends and this amazing place that has become home. So enjoy summer, but remember that we get to come back to eternal summer in San Luis Obispo in a couple months!

I am a journalism major here at the amazing Cal Poly. My goal is to get paid to travel. The ultimate dream job would be to work for National Geographic or a magazine similar to that. I caught the travel bug when I went to China my sophomore year of high school. Since then I have been to Costa Rica, Spain and France. I hope to add to my list this summer and then maybe study abroad with Cal Poly. I love everything that has to do with the outdoors. I enjoy hiking, swimming, biking and yoga. I love writing and am so excited to be a part of Her Campus!
