Meet the Founder of Poly Parkour: Kevin “Danger” Peters

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Many people know you as Kevin Danger Peters. Why the Danger?

Brian and Kristen Peters are humans with a sense of humor, and then they made a baby who didn’t have a name.

More recently, back in my sophomore year, I started Poly Parkour with a few friends (which awesomely enough has over 100 active members now!) I was ironically given that nickname because of my predilection to overzealously plan all of my movements to eliminate all sketchy parts of the movement execution. Super dangerous lol.

Where are you from?

Alamo, CA: the hood of all hoods.

Year at Poly:

Super Senior (4 years and 2 quarters)

Major:

Electrical Engineering

Your major in an alternate universe:

Anything that isn’t writing. The English language is truly awful.

Summarize your awesomeness in a haiku:

I can’t write haikus

Ideas aren’t coherent

Refrigerator

What you do (for work or play):

Fix all the iPhones that people decide to murder (shameless plug for SLO iPhone Repair), build big stupid trucks that drive on big stupid rocks (shameless plug for Poly Goats 4×4 and Offroad Club), troll Facebook

Why you do it:

Starting your own business looks good on a resume, plus a little spending cash for the weekends to fuel one’s stupid shenanigans never hurts. Cars are fun cuz it’s just something a little different from the norm. And lurking Facebook mostly applies to the former point, making sure I don’t miss any posts about humans killing their phones.

Take us back to how SLO iPhone Repair started:

Kevin Peters was one of those generally odd humans who was taking apart computers at the age of six. Fast forward to 2007 when the first iPhone came out: had a few friends who got the new device. And of course, what’s the first thing you do when you get a new phone? You break it. So they enlisted the services of the resident square who found it socially acceptable to take apart electronics on a regular basis. When I got to college, I saw a totally underserved market with a bunch of sketch dudes on craigslist who were doing an awful job with even worse quality parts. I pitched better prices with higher quality repairs and warranty, boom: business made.

What are you involved with on campus?

Former President of Poly Goats 4×4 and Offroad Club

The one person who’s left an incredible impact on you and how:

My grandpa is probably the person with the biggest impact on my life. Bought me a good when I was 5 that inspired my love of all things science and technology. From there, it was all downhill. Now I’m about to get an Electrical Engineering degree in a discipline that’s basically black magic.

What cocktail do you most closely identify with?

Fireball on the rocks. Classy as hell. Also why last night was a bit of a blur.

What song sums up your work ethic?

“Sedated” (Barely Alive Remix) – The Two Friends ft. Jeff Sontag

Ultimate guilty pleasure?

Swiping right on Tinder

What are your plans after graduation?

Probably be a leech on my parents for the next few years while I wallow at the uselessness of an EE degree. In all seriousness, hopefully I can fool some company around SLO into hiring me so I can lurk around here for a while until my other slacker friends graduate and I can leave here with peace of mind.

Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?

Hopefully working at decently sized tech company, designing products that don’t suck, and are making a difference in the world for the better. Gotta leave your mark somehow right? So I guess my avenue is the route of a nerd.

Anuja Argade is a fourth year Event Planning student studying at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Her guilty pleasures include late night cereal, good olive oil and spiritual TED Talks (preferably in that order). At dinner parties you will find Anuja admiring the wall instead of socializing like a decent human being. When she's not at dinner parties, Anuja loves crafting things with her hands and hopes to one day build a barn for her potential pet goat. Hannah is a sophomore at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA. Besides writing, she loves running, Thai food and making ridiculously unaffordable collections on Wanelo. Hannah is obsessed with The Walking Dead, old Disney movies, Ed Sheeran and wasting time on Photoshop. She'd like to point out that she can't sing or dance, but will, because that's when it's the most fun, especially when the songs are from "Les Miserables."
