Oh no! You’ve just finished the last book in your shelf and have no more to read!
While the Kennedy Library is certainly stocked with books, Phoenix book store downtown SLO also offers great options for your next read at college-student-friendly prices!
From the exterior, Phoenix is a humble little place. A navy awning hangs over the entrance and inside, you’re welcomed by that old-bookstore scent (which, let’s be honest, is probably a compilation of the homes in which these books used to sit).
Inside, books are piled in neat stacks along rows and rows of classic titles to mystery books. In the second room, you’ll find science fiction and some wild card books like the History of Boxing, a Scrabble Player’s Dictionary and a photo book of The Great Balloon Festival. However, that’s not to say Phoenix doesn’t offer current, trending titles. In the second room, you’ll also find Tolkien’s Lord of The Rings and Jodi Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper.
The great thing about Phoenix is that it’s reasonably priced. For less than five dollars, you can purchase three American classics like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, plays of Oscar Wilde and Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
Also, a HC pro tip: If you’re taking a C1 or C4 general education class and need American or British literature books, check out Phoenix before checking Amazon. Chances are, Phoenix will offer your course books for half the price.
We hope that when your reading list comes to an end, Phoenix will offer you your next read! Happy book browsing!
