If you were to look up “cute and fun” in the dictionary, a picture of Kristen Farabaugh would definitely be there. Whether she’s at the gym or behind the counter at Doc Burnstein’s, Kristen is the one of the friendliest girls you’ll ever meet!
Year: Sophomore
Relationship status: Single
Major: Business Administration with Biology minor
Hometown: Sunnyvale, California
Let’s start with the important stuff: What’s the best class to take at the gym?
My favorite class would probably be Bodypump, because it allows you to get a full body workout and challenge yourself each time (by upping the weight on the bar). Also, the instructors (I usually take Dorianna and Christiane) are really motivating and funny, which makes the pain bearable!
Thanks for the recommendations! Where can we find you when you’re not at the gym?
When I’m not in class or at the gym, you can find me in the reference room of the library, or getting coffee from Starbucks to stay awake.
We feel you. With a business major and biology minor, you must be pretty busy! What do you want to do with your degree?
Ideally, I’d love to integrate my interests in both business and biology into my future job. I hope to work in the biotechnology industry! While I’m not exactly sure what aspect of it I’d like to delve into, I’m really interested in genetics and health.
That sounds like quite a plan! Do you have any role models that have inspired you?
As weird as it may be, ever since I was younger, I’ve always idolized Hilary Duff. She starred in my favorite childhood show “Lizzie McGuire” and went about her fame the right way. I don’t consider her my role model because she’s a celebrity; I admire how she achieved her dreams by being confident, classy, and cute. She is one of the few celebrities who achieved fame while staying levelheaded, which is something that is really admirable.
Good choice. I mean, what girl hasn’t idolized Hilary Duff? Between business and bio we’re sure you don’t have much extra time! Are you involved with anything else on campus? Off campus?
On campus, I’m a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Off campus, I have a job at Doc Burstein’s downtown. I’ve basically become a professional at making waffle cones and shakes, so come visit me!
We’ll definitely take you up on that. Do you have any go-to places (besides Doc) to grab a quick bite to eat?
Urbane is amazing – I’ve loved every sandwich/salad combo I’ve ever gotten from there. Ember (in Arroyo Grande) is really good too; when my parents came to visit me, we ventured down to this restaurant. They change their menu on a monthly basis, and every single item we’ve tried is to die for. I’m also currently obsessed with Krava-a-bowl. I think I’ve caught onto the whole acai bowl trend, but regardless the bowls are really refreshing and healthy. I love bringing them onto Avila to relax.
That sounds perfect! Is there anything still on your SLO bucket list?
I’m a huge country fan (hopefully Stagecoach-bound in the future!) and still haven’t found the time to go line dancing. I’ve had early Friday morning classes every quarter I’ve been here, but I’m determined to knock Thursday night line dancing off my bucket list this quarter. I also really want to learn how to surf! A few of my friends are avid surfers and have promised to teach me, but we haven’t gotten around to it yet.
We can totally sympathize with the whole surfing thing. One last question – what do you like to do in your (limited) free time?
When I have free time, I like to binge-watch Netflix, nap, go to the gym, go to the beach, shop, and explore different areas of SLO.
