The Ultimate Cal Poly Bucket List

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Poly chapter.

Let’s face it. It’s a new year and you’ve seemingly come to terms with all types of resolutions that will soon define this “new you.” The resolutions range from going to the gym more, eating healthy or maybe even getting more sleep.

But what about being more adventurous? More daring? Do something that you will look back on in 10 or 20 years and think, “I’m glad I had the chance to do that!”

Creating a bucket list will help you enjoy your time in San Luis Obispo while introducing you to new and fun things you haven’t done before. Stepping outside of your comfort zone in the midst of all the working out and eating “healthy” is exactly what you need! It’s a perfect excuse to leave the comfort of your own bed (and Netflix) and try something different.

I have complied a list of things that I find interesting and would like to do before I graduate Cal Poly. Even though I am only a first year student, the list can be started at any age or year. It is never too late to experience the endless wonders of SLO!

Here’s the ultimate guide to San Luis Obispo:

1. See a movie at Sunset Drive-in

2. Shop around at the Farmer’s Market on Thursday night

3. Hike the P and Architecture Graveyard

5. Watch a Smile and Nod show

6. Study abroad

7.  Join (and be an active member of) a campus club

8. Lead orientation as a WOW leader

9. Eat at Firestone’s Grill

10. Attend Bike Night

11. Stick a wad on Bubblegum Alley

12. Watch the sunset at Avila Beach

13. Cheer at a rivalry sports game

15. Throw tortillas at the Gauchos during the big game

16. Ride the double-decker bus

17. Eat saltwater taffy in Morro Bay

18. Take a class at the Cal Poly Craft Center

19. Volunteer and give back to the community

20. Take a nap on Dexter Lawn

21. Bowl a strike at Mustang Lanes

22. Hit up In-N-Out at midnight

23. Pick a pumpkin at the Avila Valley Barn

24. Take a walk along the Pismo Pier

25. Eat at Blue Sky Café

26. Attend a job fair

27. Invent a frozen dessert at Yogurt Creations

28. Pull an all-nighter

Don’t sit back and let college pass you by! Take the challenge of creating your own bucket list and explore what Oprah Winfrey calls “the happiest city in America.” Enjoy!
