5 Times Beyonce Has Stopped the World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal State LA chapter.

Whether you like her or not, Beyoncé is an artist who has done it all to rightfully earn her nickname “Queen B.” For being in the music industry for well over a decade, she is an artist that clearly knows how to be innovative to truly stay relevant in society. Here are five times Beyoncé was able to stop the world within the last three years.

1. Dropped Beyoncé the Album

Looking back in time, December 13, 2013 marks the beginning of Beyoncé’s world domination. By dropping her fifth studio album without any promotion or warning thus leading to an internet meltdown. With 14 songs and 14 music videos, this was the move that made it clear to the world Beyoncé was not going to hold back anymore.

2. “Flawless (remix) ft. Nicki Minaj”

Almost anyone everyone who keeps up with pop culture can remember the time where the leaked security video of Solange, Beyonce’s younger sister, lashing out physically on her husband, Jay-z inside an elevator. Being the all mighty classy and passive aggressive Beyoncé, instead of pulling a Kanye and taking the incident onto Twitter, she decided to clap back negative comments by dropping “Flawless (remix) ft. Nicki Minaj”, that includes the lyrics, “of course sometimes sh*t goes down when there’s a billion dollars on the elevator”.

3. 2013 Super Bowl Performance

It’s clear that since dropping her fifth album unannounced, Beyonce was at the top of her game in the music industry. To top that off, during her 2013 Super Bowl halftime performance, along with having an enormous fire silhouette of herself, she decided to bring out Michelle and Kelly to reunite Destiny’s Child and sing some of their greatest hits.

4. 2014 VMA Performance

Just when you thought she couldn’t do better than her 2013 Super Bowl performance, for MTV’s 2014 VMA’s Beyoncé was the recipient for the Video Vanguard Award. Not only she got the most important award of the night, she did a 16-minute-long performance that was a medley of all the songs off her fifth album.

5. Formation

Most recently on February 6, 2016, Beyoncé dropped her latest single “Formation,” a song that she, “wanted people feel proud and have love for themselves.” Which she managed to do for it became unofficial theme song for Black History Month. (Bonus: her 2016 Super Bowl performance where she pays tribute to the Black Panthers and gracefully save her almost falling fiasco in a way Beyoncé is only able to.)

Christine Tran

Cal State LA

After taking four different MBTI tests, Christine is the definition of someone who is half ENFJ and ESFP (she got two for each type). With that being said, this clearly explains her major in Communications at Cal State LA. With a love for fashion and music, she's the type of person who will post #ootds and pictures of every concert she's at on her Instagram. Along with that, Christine has a horrible addiction with cupcakes and tattoos which will eventually be the death of her unless her parents figure out she already has more than one tattoo first.... Find out what she's up to by following her Instagram @christineetran
