On November 24th, ASI hosted an event at the University-Student Union Plaza called “Turkey-free Tasting.” This event aimed to inform students about vegan and vegetarian options for the Thanksgiving table, which would help decrease animal slaughter and improve public health. As a matter of fact, according to peta.org, more than 45 million turkeys every year are killed and eaten during thanksgiving holidays.
The Turkey-free Tasting event opened students’ minds to delicious meat alternatives and recipie ideas for upcoming thanksgiving. The event was giving out meat-free samples such as turkey-free roast, fried veggie dumplings and orange chick’n all made by a meat-free company Gardein. I personally noticed how most students were really facinated by some recipes such as vegan pumpkin pie and vegan chocolate pudding with whipped coconut cream. Ughā€¦ I mean, doesn’t it just sound So good?
As a vegan myself, I was very excited to find out that ASI was hosting this event in order to encourage young students and staff to think about our environment, health and our friends – animals. I was really surprised to see how students kept taking pictures of different dessert recipes to try to make this thanksgiving. Most people today believe that it is hard to be vegan, especially during holidays like Thanksgiving. In fact, it is the easiest thing in the world which tastes even better, improves health, but most importantly tastes just like a real turkey without killing at actual animal.
