5 Beauty Products Under $10 I Can’t Live Without

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

If you’re anything like me, you’re always on the hunt for the most affordable beauty and skincare items on the market that actually work. I’ve spent my fair share of time perusing drugstores and makeup store sale sections to figure out what works for me (and my wallet) and I’m not one to gatekeep! Here are some of my favourite beauty products under $10 that I swear by.

1. Chapstick Total Hydration Lip Balm – $6

For the longest time, I was trying to find a tinted lip balm that was both colourful and hydrating, and not only does this product meet this criteria, but I also tend to get a ton of compliments when I wear it. The Chapstick Total Hydration lip balm in the shade merlot is my favourite holy grail find!

This lip balm provides just enough of a tint to create a “no-makeup” look, and it’s incredibly flattering in all seasons. While there are other shades available, I personally like the merlot colour best, as it’s a rich maroon colour with a hint of brown. The best part is that it’s very hydrating and long-lasting! The only issue is that I’m not the only one who loves this product — it sells out at Walmart and other retailers extremely quickly. If you can get your hands on it, it’s usually priced at around $6.

2. The Ordinary Niacinamide + Zinc Serum – $7.10

I used to suffer from facial redness and breakouts, but then I started using this product more than a year ago and now, I’m no longer prone to pimples! I have combination skin with an oily t-zone, and this product helps curb the oiliness in my pores without drying out my face. Not to mention, it’s very affordable at only about $7 at Sephora, and with daily use, this product can last for months!

Here’s how I use it: after washing my face with a gentle cleanser, I take a pea-sized amount, pat it into my face, let it dry, then moisturize. It’s an easy addition to any skincare routine and will leave your face clear and glowing!

3. ELF Retractable Kabuki Brush – $7

This. Brush.

I have no clue how I applied my makeup before getting this brush! Because it’s retractable, you can set its firmness. Retracting it upwards make the bristles more firm, which is great for applying foundation or blending blush, and retracting it downwards makes the bristles more fluffy, which is great for highlighter or finishing powder. This brush is a must-have tool for any makeup bag!

4. Essence Cosmetics “This is Nude” Lipstick – $3.99

Finding a nude lipstick that complements your skin tone can be tricky, especially when brands with a large shade range tend to be in high-end makeup stores. Essence Cosmetics is known for being an affordable makeup brand that can be found in drugstores, and their nude lipstick line is my favourite!

It’s well-priced at less than $5, and my favourite shade is #6 “real.” I liked it so much that I even wore it to my brother’s wedding! Pro tip: Use one of their nude lipsticks and top it with your favourite gloss product for a really pretty and shiny look!

5. Maybelline Fit Me! Matte & Poreless Powder – $8

I’ve seen plenty of beauty YouTubers and makeup gurus use this powder, and it’s for a reason! This powder can be found at most drugstores and major retailers, and it’s a great product for creating a matte makeup look. I’ve never had any issues with blending, and it tends to last quite a while on my face. I especially like it because it tones down the shininess of my face while not feeling too heavy on the skin. This product is usually priced at around $8, though I’ve seen it on sale at some drugstores for as low as $6!

These beauty products will not only make your MUA dreams come true, but they’ll also keep your bank account happy! I use every one of these products on a regular basis, and since they’re under $10, I’m comfortable with keeping them as my go-to’s. Do you have a $10-or-less beauty product that you think I should try? Let me know!
