It’s that time of the year again when you can dress up however you please, and no one will judge you for it. If you aren’t heading home for Reading Week, here is a list of the spookiest events to check out around campus to feed your Halloween cravings.
1. SCREAM! Ft. Bingoplayers, Bass Jackers, MAKJ, and Carl Tricks – October 30
For those of you who are looking to hit up a concert to get into the Halloween spirit, this is the event for you. Sponsored by CUSA and SFX-LIC (the same people who hosted the Life in Colour party), this event is sure to be memorable. According to Hayley Dobson, the VP of Student Life of CUSA, this is a big dance party hosted at the Ernst and Young Centre (the former CE Centre), which can hold upwards of 3000 people. SCREAM begins at 10pm and tickets are available at the CUSA office and are $32.50. This is a 19+ event.
2. Halloween Superpub – October 31
If you want to take your Halloween addiction to the next level, check out Oliver’s annual Halloween Superpub. This event has been going on for approximately 42 years! There will be prizes for the best costume, so get your friends together and start brainstorming ideas. Doors open at 8 with the event starting at 9. There is a $3 cover. This is a 19+ event.
3. Residence Life’s Haunted House – October 23
ToĀ continue the success of last year’s event, Residence LifeĀ and theĀ Campus Activity Board is hosting another Haunted House. The second annual Haunted House is a free event, but donations are gratefully accepted and all proceeds will go towards the Make a Wish Foundation. Last year over 500 people attended, says Laurie Shea. Bring your Carleton friends to the Triple Lounge (first floor of Russell House) at 7:30 p.m. dressed in your best costumes. There will be a scary movie that playing in Res,Ā as well asĀ free treats!
4. A Very Artsy Halloween – October 24
Are you into art, dancing, and food? If you answered yes to any of those questions, Carleton’s first ever “A Very Artsy Halloween” at CUAG might be the place for you this Halloween! Local band Organ Eyes, and DJs Rococo, Musicc, and Rocky LaLune will keep the party going as you dance, watch silent films and make Halloween masks. There will also be pizza, popcorn, and candy. Ottawa-based artist, Blair Smith, will be in attendance with a photo booth to make personalized tarot cards. There will be prizes for the best art-inspired costume, so grab your friends and get creative! Doors open at 9 and admission is free.
5. Pumpkin Carving at the ISSO Halloween Party – October 27
Did you miss the deadline to sign up for the CAB Pumpkin Carving Contest, but still really want to put your carving skills to the test? The International Student Services Office is hosting a Halloween Party which will offer an opportunity to carve pumpkins, bob for apples, and show off your best costumes. Get your friends together and head to the ISSO Lounge (128 UC) at 2pm.
