For some people, Halloween is all about the big house parties, haunted houses, and gallivanting bustling neighbourhoods in Halloween costumes. For introverts, the idea of loud crowds and chaotic celebrations can feel more overwhelming than thrilling. If you’re someone who loves spooky season but prefers more personal experiences, you’re not alone. There are other ways to enjoy Halloween without having to go to a packed event. Here are some fun, low-key activities that will help you embrace the Halloween spirit – minus the social burnout.

Baking spells

Getting in the kitchen and whipping up some Halloween-themed sweet treats is such a great way to participate in the holiday. There are so many recipes out there but some of my favourites are the ‘graveyard brownies’ and ‘skeleton cupcakes’. The best part is getting to decorate your dessert in whatever scary character you like.

Cozy up with the classics

Indulging in a scary movie marathon from the comfort of your home is one of the best ways to enjoy Halloween. There are so many movies to choose from, whether you prefer terrifying horror or lighthearted Halloween classics. You can escape into the eerie stories without the pressure of socializing. A blanket, some snacks, dim lighting, and maybe even a candle will create the perfect atmosphere for a quiet, relaxing night in. My go-to’s for the season are The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hocus Pocus, and Rosemary’s Baby.

Why not dress up?

Just because you decide not to go out, doesn’t mean you can’t dress up and go all out with a costume. Embrace the fun of dressing up, even if it’s just for yourself. You can go crazy with the makeup and outfit or simply throw on a themed onesie. It adds a playful element to your night. It’s the perfect excuse to have a photo shoot at home and keep the pictures as a fun memory.

get crafty

For those who don’t want to go completely solo during Halloween but also aren’t down for the crowds, hosting a pumpkin carving or pumpkin painting night with your closest friends could be so much fun. This relaxed activity gets you and your favourite people creative without the pressure of a big social gathering. You can do an easy set-up with the pumpkins, fall-scented candles, maybe some of the Halloween-themed sweet treats you baked, and a playlist with some iconic Halloween movie soundtracks. As everyone carves or paints their pumpkins, you can take pictures to capture the memory, or you could get really creative and make a vlog about the night. It’s a great way to bond with your friends and make something unique.

It’s important to remember that you don’t have to follow the traditional celebrations to enjoy Halloween. It’s all about finding joy in the activities that resonate with you. Celebrate Halloween on your own terms! Happy Halloween!
