Trends move at an incredible speed, they really do. It’s a full-time occupation to keep up with the current and passé, and in my travels through trends, I’ve come across some that, to be honest, I just don’t understand.
1) Exaggerated Volume:
The structured look is one that is cyclical. This past year it was a big trend in fall, and now it’s coming back in spring. Similar to structured, fall also saw a trend of oversized clothes that completely dwarf models. I honestly cannot say I really understand this one. Sure, oversized pieces are great – like a loose, long shirt for example. But a dress that looks to be five sizes too big or pants that billow so much they could be inflated and turn into a life raft? Not too sure those looks are flattering.

2) Wedge Sneakers:
I don’t even know how this one got started, but in the fall/winter season there were some throwbacks to 80’s and 90’s glory with vintage-looking sweatshirts, so I suppose this was a possible logical step. But… really? Wedges are cute. Sneakers are cute. Together, they are not. And if anyone thinks that these can count as a formal shoe I will direct them to the exit.

3) Ombre Hair:
This is a trend that I don’t understand, but I actually don’t mind either. I won’t lie, when I first heard about ombre hair, all I could think was that it was clever people creating a trend because they accidentally let their roots get out of control. That being said, I’m warming up to the trend because in some cases it’s really pretty, but only when the difference in colour is not extreme. Ombre hair looks best when the change is gradual, and not suddenly having your hair stark blonde when it was dark brown halfway down.
