5 Valentine’s Day Must-Dos For Single Ladies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Case chapter.

Are you totally bummed out because the ominous, dreaded day of love is fastly approaching and you have no significant other to share it with? Well, I can assure you that single people can have fun on Valentine’s Day too. Here are five ideas on how to make the day great:

1. Spend the day with friends.

Honestly, having a significant other is nice, but having best friends is the real deal. Go out to dinner and catch up, or stay in and watch sappy rom-coms. Either way, you can’t go wrong with surrounding yourself with best-friend love. There’s no type of love like it.

2. Send some love to strangers! I mean, not in a creepy way, of course…

Buy that homeless man you always pass on the way to work a candy bar. Give that shy girl from your huge lecture a genuine compliment. Tell your favorite professor that he or she is doing a great job. I promise, you’ll feel great. Make this day about making others feel loved.

3. Indulge for the sake of indulging.

It’s a holiday after all. Go ahead and indulge, whether it’s your favorite chocolate that you’ve been telling yourself you shouldn’t eat, that pair of shoes you don’t particularly need but really, really want, or that one show on Netflix you can’t stop watching. And don’t feel bad about it afterward. It’s Valentine’s Day, and you deserve it.

4. Reflect.

Think about all of the great things in your life that you’re thankful for. What recent accomplishments are you proud of? Bring back the good memories and do away with the bad ones.

5. Do not (I repeat, do NOT) throw yourself a pity party.

Maybe you thought you’d have a significant other by now and you’re doubting yourself. Maybe you just ended a relationship. Either way, February 14th is about celebrating love, and one person you should definitely love is yourself. Besides, do you really need a significant other to validate how awesome you are? Pick yourself up by your super cute combat boot straps, apply a fresh coat of deadly red lipstick, look at yourself in the mirror, and repeat after me: I am awesome and I’m going to make the most of this day.

You go girl!
