The Netflix’s catalogue is pretty extensive and, we know, it can be overwhelming sometimes to pick a movie when you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for. But, if you’re in the mood for a romantic comedy, we got you covered! Here are 10 rom-coms currently available on Netflix:

Alex Strangelove

“Alex StrangeLove” is a very sweet and contemporary movie that talks about a important subject in a light and fun manner. The actors have a great chemistry and bring the somewhat cliche story to life in an adorable way that makes you fall in love with the characters. Daniel Doheny plays Alex, a teenager that is determined to lose his virginity with his girlfriend and best friend Claire (Madeline Weinstein), but everything changes when he meets lovable Elliott (Antonio Marziale).

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Rebecca Bloom (Isla Fisher) has one problem: she’s a shopping addict. Which led to a huge debt she needs to pay off. Then, she loses her current job at a gardening magazine and accidentally gets a job at a financial magazine, instead of the fashion one she was aiming for. So, between dealing with this new job and her new editor, Luke (Hugh Dancy), she must also confront her addiction and try to solve her money issues. The fun resides in the irony of it all and you can’t help but feel captivated by the characters and the story.

I Am Not an Easy Man

The only movie from this list that wasn’t made in the United States, “I Am Not an Easy Man” (“Je ne suis pas un homme facile”) is a fantastic french movie directed by Éléonore Pourriat. The main focus is to show the sexist society we still live in, and the fact that some men don’t realise how horrible some things they do and say to women are, until they feel it in their own skin, and that’s the plot of the movie. It’s an incredibly important topic to be discussed and the movie is very honest when it comes to doing so.

While You Were Sleeping

Lucy (Sandra Bullock) works at the ticket booth at a train station in Chicago. There she meets and nurtures a secret crush for Peter Callaghan (Peter Gallagher), to whom she never exchanged many words besides good morning, as he buys a ticket from her everyday. One day, just as he’s about to catch the train, Peter is mugged and falls on the tracks. Lucy saves him, but he enters a coma.

At the hospital, she’s mistaken as his girlfriend by the staff and his family and, in a panic, she isn’t able to tell them the truth. The lie gets bigger and bigger as she gets to know Peter’s relatives and becomes very fond of all of them. The mandatory Sandra Bullock rom-com, it’s funny, compelling and there’s a twist at the end.

The DUFF

“The DUFF” is an acronym that stands for the designated ugly fat friend, and it’s also the name of a movie that, in a way, everyone will be able to relate to. Through a real and meaningful story we are able to connect with the characters and, even if the storyline is a little superficial, there’s a important lesson to be learned with this movie.

Bianca (Mae Whitman) is a high school senior that decides to drastically reinvent herself after learning how the other students see her, as the DUFF of her friend group.

Isn’t It Romantic

Natalie (Rebel Wilson) thinks romantic comedies are a waste of time, completely stupid. That is, until one day when she hits her head while being mugged on the subway, passes out and wakes up in this perfect rom-com world. Her hair is great, her doctor is super hot, New York is insanely beautiful, people are nice to her on the street, her apartment is huge and she has a gay best friend. Now she needs to find out how to go back to the real world. This movie is pure fun, because it is a constant parody of the rom-com genre with clever jokes. Definitely worth a watch!

She’s All That

Zack (Freddie Prinze Jr) is the most popular guy in school. After his girlfriend breaks up with him to date an actor, Zack’s friends challenge him to pick a random girl and turn her into the new Prom Queen. The chosen one is Laney Boggs (Rachael Leigh Cook), an unpopular art student, which is going to make that task really hard. Zach approaches Laney and they get to know each other over time and, guess what? They fall in love. This is the classic jock-with-feelings falls for girl-who’s-clearly-not-his-type trope. Plus, there’s a bet involved. It’s worth every minute of your time.

Set It Up

Harper (Zoey Deutch) and Charlie (Glen Powell) join forces – or in this case, their knowledges as assistants – to set up their bosses together, in hopes of getting them off their backs. Kirsten (Lucy Liu) lives for her work and Rick (Taye Diggs) always wants to be on top and winning, they are very intense people who overwork their assistants, from staying at work past midnight to ordering dinner after every restaurant is closed. Maybe a “parent trap” sort of plan, as Charlie called it, could make these two bosses loosen up a bit and allow these two assistants to live their lives.

Just Go With It

Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler, together, in the same movie, do we need to say anything more? “Just Go With It” was released in 2011, directed by Dennis Dugan and tells the story of a plastic surgeon who, in order to cover up a lie he told his much-younger girlfriend, enlists his loyal assistant to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife.

With kids in hand and a trip to Hawaii, the movie is carelessly funny, Aniston and Sandler have great chemistry and it’s the perfect film to watch as a way to distract yourself from the rest of the world.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2

Toula (Nia Vardalos) is now a mother to a teenage girl, Paris (Elena Kampouris). And beside the fact that she had to close her travel agency and started helping out her parents in their restaurant (again), her relationship with her daughter isn’t so great.

Paris feels smothered by her family and started applying for colleges far far away from them. It’s basically the same situation Toula was in all those years ago. This movie is a perfect homage to the first one and all the actors are back reprising their roles. Do you love My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Then please watch this sequel!
