10 Most Expected “Blocos de Rua” in São Paulo’s 2017 Carnaval

Brazil is a tropical country where an organized mess makes the streets crowded with people, music and joy during the month of February. Carnaval is coming and there are so many street parades to venture that it becomes difficult to decide which ones to enjoy. Thinking of it, here we have a list of the most expected street parades in Sao Paulo to shake your February. In 2017, some of them are dedicated to different rythms, too: funk, sertanejo and pop are going to debut, while others will bring the traditional samba. Check it out:

1. Casa Comigo

Saturday, February 18th

Gathering: Brigadeiro Faria Lima Avenue, at 11 am

The block “Casa Comigo” has a history: started in 2012 and this February fifty musicians will perform classical “marchinhas”, authorial songs and adaptations of pop hits like “Pelados em Santos” from the band Mamonas Assassinas.

2. Pop do Cassete

Saturday, February 18th

Gathering: Centro Cultural São Paulo (Vergueiro subway), at 5 pm

The entertainment website “Papel Pop” will debut their street parade this year. In February 18th, at 5 pm, the crowd will departure from Centro Cultural São Paulo shaking hips while listen to a lot of pop songs. If you have ever dreamed of becoming a diva, this is your moment! Put up a costume and experience been Britney Spears, Beyoncé or Madonna for a day.

3. Acadêmicos do Baixo Augusta

Sunday, February 19th

Gathering: Consolação Street, in front of Caixa Belas Artes, at 3 pm

The Queen of this party is the actress Alessandra Negrini, who played Júlia in the movie “2 Coelhos”. The singer and godmother Tulipa Ruiz will be blessing the parade and with her. Besides, Fafá de Belém, Tiê, China and Alexandre Nero are just a few of the artists who invite you to follow the party and dance until the end of the day.

Carnival has arrived, baby.

4. Agrada Gregos

Saturday, February 25th

Gathering: Treze de Maio Street, nº 1450, at 4 pm

Oh my Zeus, it is carnival! Afrodite is preparing the glitter of love to throw in everyone, Dionísio will bring the drinks and Atena – always wise – is organizing the set list with axé, pop, funk and sertanejo.

5. Domingo Ela Não Vai

Sunday, Februay 26th

Gathering: Praça do Correio Square at 2 pm

On Sunday, the streets will fill up with axé from the ‘90s together with the international meme’s queen, Gretchen! The Djs Thy San, Leandro Pardí, Arrigo Araújo and Bruno Legítimo head the Domingo Ela Não Vai’s music

6. Bloquinho e Buchecha  

Monday, February 27th

Gathering: Salvador Cardoso Street x Cojuba Street

“Bloquinho e buchecha” is another debut on carnival this year. The parade is a tribute to the success duo funk from the 90s Claudinho e Buchecha. The public will remember the times when the two only songs played on the radio were “Só Love” and “Quero te encontrar”.

7. Pinga Ni Mim

Monday, February 27th

Gathering: Hélio Pellegrino, nº1 (near from Ibirapuera park) at 4 pm

Last year Simone e Simaria, Maiara e Maraisa, Marília Mendonça proved that women talent to gain space in the sertanejo scenario. Can you imagine a carnival street parade dedicated only to this style of music?  That’s what the Pinga Ni Mim stands for and promises to take over São Paulo’s streets for the first time.

8. Bastardo

Tuesday, Febrary 28th

Gathering: João Moura street, nº 727, Pinheiros (between Teodoro Sampaio and Artur de Azevedo streets), at 3 pm

The Bastardo parade went to the streets for the first time in 2014 and, in 2017, they have recruited ex-musicians from the “Vai Quem Qué” tradicional block that started to whip up São Paulo carnival 37 years ago. Here “marchinhas” and samba are indispensable.

9. Primavera, te amo

Garnishing your heads with a flower crown is more than allowed on this special day. After dancing a lot on the holidays, is it a time to rest? No! Now we dance even more thanks to this parade where new friendships and love comes in the sound of Brazilian music.

10. Bloco do Síndico

Sunday, March 5th

Gathering:  Hélio Pellegrino Avenue x Santo Amaro Avenue – Edgard Hermelindo Leite square, at 3 pm

In 2014 at Itaim Bibi neighborhood, the “Bloco do Síndico” was born. The parade brings up songs from the unforgettable Tim Maia, MPB classics and samba adapted to different kinds of music like rock, pagode and even electronic. All the musicians are led by Mestre Wawá. An option to finish carnival pleasing to all music tastes.
