Lollapalooza started in 1991, when the front man Perry Farrel decided to do a farewell tour with his band Jane’s Addiction, but with not only one opening band, he invited many friends to tour around the U.S.A. with him, which became a big festival later called Lollapalooza.
Prioritizing diversity, Lollapalooza began with a movement of counterculture, helping other movements like the new generation of independent bands and alternative rock and giving unknown and new bands a place to perform.
With time, the initial idea of the festival lost its strength when the public started to complain about the decision of bringing more mainstream artists to the festival. In 1998 it had to be canceled. Thankfully, it came back in 2003 and with important bands like Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys, while Brazil had its first edition in 2013.
This year, the festival is bringing many independent and not so known bands and artists that are coming to the country for the first time, among many other famous bands just like Arctic Monkeys and Twenty One Pilots, who were already a success in Brazil in the past editions.
