Book Love (Taylor’s Version): Get To Know 5 Books Our Blondie Has Read And Approved

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

November 2021 is officially Taylor Swift’s month (to be honest, this may be even her year). With “Red (Taylor’s Version)” coming up, a whole short film of one of her most famous songs among fans and a TikTok account, what could be better?

We all know that the web is once again obsessed with our favorite blondie (and we don’t blame them for that). So, with that being said, what do you think about making your reading a bit more swift-y? We got you!

Check out these five books Taylor Swift has read and approved:

“Rebecca” – Daphne Du Maurier

Starting with the classics. “Rebecca” is a mystery book, first published in 1938, by the French author Daphne Du Maurier. It follows the story of a young woman who recently married a widower that is still haunted by the memories of his late wife. Suddenly, she starts to discover some secrets about his past.

I know, it sounds a bit creepy and dark — and it is, I’m not going to lie. However, did you know that this song inspired “Tolerate”? In an interview with Apple Music, Taylor explained that she related to the book deeply. Crazy, right?

“The Great GatsBy” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

Another classic that takes us to one of Taylor’s hits. I guess at this point, everybody knows the story behind “The Great Gatsby”, but in case you don’t, I’m going to explain it anyway.

The F. Scott Fitzgerald novel introduces us to Nick Carraway, a young merchant, that moves to the house next to Jay Gatsby’s mansion. Gatsby is known for his huge parties and money, but no one knows where he gets it from.

If you’re a reader and a Swifty you probably know this, but the “Delicate” video is full of parallels to this classic. So much, it definitely is a Taylor Swift essential read.

“Normal People” – Sally Rooney

Finally, a book that is not a classic… (yet). “Normal People” is a contemporary romance written by the great Sally Rooney — who *spoiler alert* is going to be mentioned once again in this article.

The book tells us the painfully real love story of the Irish friends Marianne and Connell. In school, they pretend they don’t know each other, but once they’re alone, they have the greatest connection ever.

However, nothing is like the fairy tales we were told as kids. Connell is the star of the school’s soccer team, while Marianne is a loner. To the jock, they can’t be seen together, or else it would ruin his reputation. (See what I did there?)

“Conversation With Friends” – Sally Rooney

I told you we were going to see her again! Taylor Swift really loves Sally just as much as we love her. In 2019, she told The Cut all about her brand-new obsession with the author.

“I like the tone she takes when she’s writing. I think it’s like being inside somebody’s mind”.

In this book, we meet Frances, an Irish student in her twenties, who is also a writer. She has a poetry play with her best friend (and also ex-girlfriend) Bobbi. Don’t need to tell you any other detail to convince you to read this book, right?

“Furious Love” – Sam Kashner

At last, a biography — and also the only non-fiction book on this list. In “Furious Love” we go backstage on the love story of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor and their intense relationship.

To Harper’s Bazaar, Taylor said: “I read a book about Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor recently, and how there was this crazy frenzy surrounding them”. Cool, right?

See? Now you can have a readathon — a reading marathon, got it? —, but Taylor Swift style, so it matches the whole month theme. You are welcome!
