Year after year, Casperians face the announcement in January of a readjustment in the monthly tuition prices, which the college’s accountant identify as “equivalent to annual inflation”. However, since 2013, the tuition went from R$ 1,418 a month for the majors of Publicity, Journalism and Public Relation, to R$ 1,947 in 2016.Â
On Monday, August 29th, students gathered to listen to CAVH present its results after a year in charge of the academic center. During the assembly, the topic of another tuition raise was discussed. According to the students, if the college accounts the tuition on the annual inflation rate, next year our monthly tuition would be approximately R$2,200 for Publicity, Journalism and Public Relation. Therefore, a great amount of students would be forced to drop college, because of the expensive value and not enough scholarship to attend all demands.Â
In an anticipative response to an abusive increase in the tuition, students decided to exercise a strike until Thursday (Sept 01), in order to define what would the core claims to be sent to the college and vote for who would be in charge of discussing the matter. From Monday (Aug 29) to Thursday (Sept 01), students protests against the raise in the hallways and attended assemblies and meetings with the Principal Carlos Costa, VP Roberto Chiachiri and the CAVH to discuss further steps. Classes were paralyzed and will be resumed this Friday (Sept 02). You can see a video on the strike here.Â
