Are you familiar with turkish TV shows? If not, let me introduce you to one of the most beloved series that will definitely conquer your heart. Sen Çal Kapımı started last summer as a romcom – produced by MF Yapim and aired by Fox Turkey – and it tells the beautiful – and sometimes painful – love story between Eda Yıldız and Serkan Bolat. The show quickly became an absolute success around the world, especially in Brazil, where the fans have been watching it faithfully since last year.
But why is this series so fascinating? The first thing you should know about dizis is that each episode is 2 hours long. It may seem a lot when you’re not used to it but trust me, you’ll get so involved in the story that, sooner or later, you’ll be asking for more. Now, let Her Campus introduce you to the amazing universe of Sen Çal Kapımı.
- You’re cold and I burn! Get to know Eda and Serkan
-
Eda Yıldız is a talented, beautiful and smart architect student who works at her aunt’s flower shop since she couldn’t graduate due to the cancellation of her scholarship. Serkan Bolat is a perfectionist and clever man with a difficult past (yeah, we’re going there) while being one of the most famous architects in Turkey.
Calling my enemies to lovers trope to state that he’s also the owner of ArtLife, a.k.a the company that should be paying for Eda’s studies, so you can figure that she absolutely hates him because she is sure that he’s responsible for her scholarship being cut off. With that in mind, our story starts on a very sunny and beautiful day at her college.
Eda and Serkan meet each other and she decides to give him a lesson, by keying his car. I mean, we can’t blame her, she was upset. And we can’t blame him for being pissed since he was inside the car while she was doing it. Yeah, that awkward moment. I won’t tell why or how, but all you need to know is that they end up handcuffed to each other after this. Literally handcuffed.
This is the beginning of the episode… By the end of it they’re faking a whole engagement (fake relationship trope, I would never let you down). The characters have so many layers and they are very complex, so it’s a perfect show for people who are into watching well developed personality traits.
It’s also very important to watch a series with an empowered female lead that knows what she wants and won’t let people dictate the rules of her life. The male lead is not behind, since he’s totally learning how to show his vulnerable side and how to deal with his insecurities and inner scars. The details and the parallels are so extremely beautiful that there’s no way you won’t fall in love with the show.
- You’ll cry but you’ll also laugh
-
The first episodes are so fun and cheerful. The show will definitely warm up your heart and put a smile on your face like it did for a lot of people. Fans from all over the world got to know each other and now they have a huge power on social media. It’s a cool cultural experience to talk about a common subject with so many different people and it also brings attention to the turkish culture. They definitely overcome the language barrier and it shows.
To exemplify the reach of the show, let me bring up the occasion when the public tweeted 5 million times during one episode (and I didn’t make a mistake here, 5 million is the correct – and impressive – number, for real) and on another episode fans tweeted 2 million times, winning the Shorty Awards for “Best Use Of Hashtag” with #kalpunutmaz. With this undeniable success, the series was extended and it became a lot more dramatic as well.
So, hey, if you like heavy dramas, we have that for you as well! A whole package. If you don’t like heavy dramas, I’m sorry but you’ll be too attached to let go of it when it gets complicated for the characters, so just prepare your heart, okay? Create a Twitter account if you don’t have one already and have fun with the memes, it will help your aching heart.
- Fire meets Gasoline: Get To Know Hande Erçel and Kerem Bürsin
-
The series hooked up many fans since its beginning, a lot due to the chemistry between the leads, Hande Erçel and Kerem Bürsin. Surrounded by a beautiful harmony and electricity, the duo is one of the most beloved TV partners nowadays. They managed to bring a lot of emotions on screen and a lot of fun moments off screen, so it’s not hard for people to fall in love with them.
The duo became so popular around the world that fans here, in Brazil, sent them a package of gifts that were posted on social media by the production team. The partners also won the Best Chemistry Award at Series Brasil.
The brazilian fans have also been trying to get the attention of Globoplay… Will we see the show at the streaming service soon? We sure hope so!
Sen Çal Kapımı will be back with a second season in june on Fox Turkey.
