As the day to go to JUCA (University Games of Communication and Arts) gets closer, the expectations get higher and the athletes work harder. We talked to a freshman, who plays soccer for Cásper to understand a little bit more about his expectations for this big college competition.
Name: Guilherme Serrano
Course: Journalism
Year: Class of 2020
Sport: Soccer
Catarina Borsari: Â How do you think your first year at JUCA is going to be? OK
Gabriel Serrano: I think it’s going to be unforgettable. Since it’s my first year, I think we freshmen already have different feelings about it, especially because we don’t know what it’s like there, we just know what our upper classmen told us. And as an athlete it should be even better, because even though I’m going there to have fun, I also have the responsibility to be focused on the games and to win the championship.
C: How do you think Cásper students behave there, related to parties and games? OK
G: Since JUCA is getting closer, we hear stories at practices, and in college we just talk about it. I have big expectations for Casperians, since we are known to have the best audience in JUCA. Also, from all the videos and stories I hear, Cásper fans seem to be incredible and to always throw nice parties and play well at games.
C: What are your expectations for the accommodations, parties, games and environment at JUCA? OK
G: In practice people are very close and united, and I’m sure that this feeling is the same everywhere at JUCA, because everybody is feeling the same way with anxiety and happiness, especially if we win the matches and the championship.
C: How do think athletes from different sports and players on your soccer team will behave at JUCA? OK
G: The players from my soccer team are very united and we are almost like a family. We go to the games with will to win and with JUCA getting closer, this willingness should increase. Everyone takes this championship really seriously, as they share this will and determination to win and lead Casper to the top of the rankings.
C: What do you expect from the interaction between colleges both at games and parties? OK
G: I have already seen this rivalry and sense of competition between colleges in past games, since everyone is there to win and want to be the champion. But I don’t think this rivalry happens inside parties, because everybody is there to enjoy JUCA and have fun.
C: How does it feel to carry the responsibility of a uniform in your first year at Cásper?OK
G: It’s a very good feeling, but it still brings me nervousness. I still don’t know if I’ll be there as a role player or not, since the senior athletes are already pretty strong. I’ve joined the team recently and I’m gradually trying to create my space there, but I’m very happy with this responsibility of wearing Casper’s uniform and knowing that we are the current champions in soccer. It makes me anxious, but I’m happy to be representing my college this year.
C: What do you expect from the love Cásper students bring to the games every year?OK
G: I think Cásper’s excitement is something out of the ordinary and inexplicable. Last year at JUCA, Cásper had a great performance, so this year everybody is more excited. We have all this history of bringing a strong crowd and fans to all the games, so every athlete and student seems to share this whole passion of being able to represent and support our college.
