Naomi uses her influence to highlight the racism in fashion, and has already stated in several interviews the difficulties faced during her career due to her skin color. “When I started, I was not chosen to certain fashion shows because of the color of my skin. I did not let it shake me. Working from an early age, I understood what it meant to be black. I had to try harder. I needed to be twice as good” She said in an interview with the newspaper “O Globo” in 2016.
Campbell also recalls she did not get the cover of a French magazine in the 1980s because she was black, and designer Yves Saint Laurent was outraged and threatened to withdraw his campaigns of the publication so that Campbell achieved the prominence that deserves so much.
