Julia Crouch is a British writer known for books such as Cuckoo, The Long Fall and Every Vow You Break. Her first novel, Cuckoo, was published in 2011, with 496 pages that you simply can’t take your eyes off.
Cuckoo talks about two friends, Rose and Polly. They used to be roomates back when they were teenagers but, as they grew up, they also grew apart. They both got married with someone else and built lovely families, however, all of a sudden, everything has changed.
Polly called her used-to-be bff to tell that her husband had just died. Rose, immediately invites her over for unlimited time. As the story goes by, you discover all character’s secrets – even some you can’t believe in.
In this intriguing suspense, Rose’s “American dream” life has a turnover, but does it have any relation with Polly’s arrival? It’s impressive how this book can change your humor – as you get to know Rose, Polly or even their families better, you feel what they feel, being impossible to close the book until the very end.
When you turn the last page, you simply can’t describe all the feelings you’re carrying. Everything always fit in this book, even the title, wich causes shivers every now and then.
Cuckoo has such a strength that it leaves a mark in every reader, and Julia Crouch definetely knew how to do that.
