Meet the Student Representatives

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

With the beginning of classes, it is important for freshmen to know who they should look for in case they need anything or have a question/concern about their major and Cásper as a whole.

Major Representatives:

Public Relations:

Mateo Minilo

Age: 21

Year: 2016

Where you can find him at Cásper: during classes – Tuesdays and Thursdays at night, on the 3rd floor.

What does being a student’s representative mean to you?It means reliability. You are there to represent others because they chose you, so you can see yourself as a politic that needs to listen to other students’ necessities. It is also a great opportunity to meet people who are in the same Major as mine that I didn’t know before, or even from the others, since we maintain some contact with the other representatives.

What do you look forward to the most in 2016?I swear I have no idea at all. [Laughs]. I hope it’ll be a good year and that I’ll be able to do some nice things in CAVH.

Loryene Nakahara

Age: 21

Year: 2017

Where you can find her at Cásper: since I work all day, I’m usually at Cásper at 6:30 p.m., in the 3rd or 5th floors. People can also reach me through Facebook and WhatsApp if they ask me.

What does being a student’s representative mean to you?It means listening and understanding other students and, from that, fighting for a better Cásper for everyone.

What do you look forward to the most in 2016?For this year, I hope that our observations, made in 2015, are taken into consideration this year. And that Cásper will be open to listening to us and that our opinions, complaints and suggestions are attended as well.

Radio, TV and Internet:

LaĂs Souza Lima

Age: 23

Year: 2017

Where you can find her at Cásper: Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. In the morning, in my classroom, which is at the 5th floor, and during the afternoon and night, on the RTVI labs in the 4th floor.

What does being a student’s representative mean to you?Being a representative, and the same to my internship, means being able to help and listening to people that come across me in the corridors. It’s having liberty to give opinions and to argue when your ideas oppose to others, and grow when having to deal with something we don’t like at all. Clear up questions made by colleagues and always be open to help whoever needs it. I like this sensation; it makes me happy to feel I’m useful to the person next to me.

What do you look forward to the most in 2016?In 2016 I pretend to be even closer to my friends, professors and co-workers – to help and teach as much to learn and be helped. After all, each step is a whole new learning, and in our work area, no day is like the other, there will always be new challenges. So, there’s nothing better to be open to whatever is there to come. Many plans and projects, a long way to go, and new things to learn all together.

Gabriel Nascimento

Age: 18

Year: 2018

Where you can find him at Cásper: in the morning, usually until 2 p.m., in my own class at Cásper, in the RTVI’s Coordination Office or in the CAVH.

What does being a student’s representative mean to you?It means having the opportunity to fight for students’ rights, ensuring they’ll feel supported by college, through their Major’s coordinating body, every time they need.

What do you look forward to the most in 2016?I hope to conclude my period as a representative leaving no freshmen uninformed and making sure they feel welcome in Cásper. As a student, that I’ll be able to accomplish my tasks, obtain more knowledge and explore every opportunity that college offers us. As a professional, I expect to get an internship in any of the areas I enjoy the most in my Major: production and/or edition for television.

Rodolfo José Marcondes Krupka

Age: 21

Year: 2016

What does being a student’s representative mean to you?Being a student representative means having the mission to take to the coordinators doubts and complaints students have, but mainly communicate to the students what is really happening in the academic space.

Age: 19

Year: 2016

Where you can find her at Cásper: In my classroom on the 6th floor, 3PPA, in the Publicity Coord or the 5th and 3rd floors.

What does being a student’s representative mean to you?For me it’s the possibility to see the change happening. I like to be in front of the causes my colleagues raise and respecting every different opinion, I am glad to help and collaborate with everyone! It’s a great way to leave all the differences aside and join forces for an improvement of our institution and graduating the best communication professionals. I see this every day and there is always a new challenge and a new opportunity to dialogue with professors and students.

What do you look forward to the most in 2016?This year we have a new coordinator, Joubert de Brito, so I hope to see a new set of values and a better integration between the teachers and students. I am willing to make everything in my capability to help casperians to achieve their goals.

Journalism:

Mariana Gonzalez

Age: 19

Year: 2016

Where you can find her at Cásper:This year, because of my internship I won’t be so present at Cásper as I wish. For the morning students, you can find me in the 3rd floor ramp during breaks. For night students, I am always available via Facebook or WhatsApp. Depending on how urgent the matter is, it is easier to look for Felipe, my colleague as Journalism representative.

What does being a student’s representative mean to you?Understanding student’s demands e translate that to the professors and the coordinator Helena. The most interesting and nice thing is to show to teachers that students have a hard time with some subjects, internships and schedules. In the last few months, I felt the teachers are more open to discuss those matters and saw discuss their own posture in classroom

What do you look forward to the most in 2016?My expectations involve desconstrution. Even if Cásper seams very liberal in a first moment, you can still notice sexist, racist and homophobic attitudes and actions, especially from some teachers. The Groups have been doing an outstanding job to raise awareness against those things. Everything leads me to believe that in 2016, we will have more space for those discussions in lectures and debates.

Sometimes students have problems and are too shy or don’t want to say it out loud, because there are afraid of being harmed later. And we are there to give voice for those students. As a representative, people sometimes even approach me and open their hearts about personal issues. It’s like an older sister/brother.

What do you look forward the most in 2016?I’m usually very organized, from my goals for the year to where I will be spending my Christmas holidays, but in 2016 I have nothing planned it, so if anything really nice turns up, I will be very happy about it.
