Mind, Body And Spirit – Raise Your Vibe With Aromatherapy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

Lavender, grapefruit, jasmine, lemongrass… these and many others names at first sight might look just like some random natural stuff (or names of different kinds of soaps), but not in the universe of aromatherapy.

If you´re asking yourself what exactly is that, don’t worry: we can explain. Aromatherapy is basically a kind of holistic treatment, which uses different kinds of essential oils to bring health both to your body and spirit. These oils, extracted from roots, leaves and other concentrated parts of natural resources are full of vitamins, antibiotics and lots of powerful components that can help you relieve pains, enhance your concentration or even make your skin look better. The coolest thing is that is 100% natural!

Although the aromatherapy is conquering a lot of popularity and recognizement among science nowadays, this method is not new: ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans, for example, already used the power of essential oils centuries ago, in order to treat diseases or even for religious ceremonies.

On the topics below, you can check some basic tips to understand a little bit more about the modern universe of aromatherapy.

What kind of oil should I choose?

The kind of oil you´re gonna use may vary according to your intentions and personal boundaries with this therapy. If you want to energize yourself and bring high frequencies to your body, rose oil might be a good choice. If you´re dealing with a lot of stress during quarantine time, patchouli oil can fit well. Some drops of lavender should be enough if you need to calm down and relax for a moment. It’s all about you and what’s more recommended by the aromatherapists for your goals.

How can I use the oils?

The essential oils can be used in many ways, but it’s really important to be careful about which of them you´re gonna choose. Citric oils, for example, such as lemon, tangerine and orange, can be great for bringing more energy and positively influence in your humor, but are not recommended for direct use in the skin due to the risk of allergic reactions and, mainly, of sunburns. In that case, the oil’s benefits can still be enjoyed, but through a diffuser or other indirect method.

Many of them can actually be diluted in vegetable oils and used in direct contact with your body, as in a localized massage. Some popular examples are jasmine, peppermint and geranium.

Where can I find it?

Although there are still some kinds of oils exclusively used by specialists and researchers, the most popular ones are kinda easy to find. However, it’s always recommended to buy them from specialized stores and brands, in order to guarantee a better and safer experience for you.

Finally, it’s important to remember that this is still a kind of alternative (and really complex) medicine, so make a good research and talk to people who have studied about that before just using it at ease.  Carefully, with a great instruction, the right oils and the best method for you, aromatherapy surely can be the perfect ally to raise your vibe and improve your health.
