Starring the magnificent actresses Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe, Hidden Figures was released in theaters earlier this month and with a few days already explained the reasons for the numerous nominations. Public phenomenon, the film is dedicated to discover who were the three black female employees whose works were fundamental in the space race with the Soviets.
The dispute, however, is not just spatial. In the American intrinsic ties, the biggest dispute was still between black and white spaces. It is on the NASA campus that the protagonists must deal with the ingrained and latent prejudice that plagued society at that time. The curious fact is that until the release of the film, most people never knew the history of this incredible women, although the Cold War is a subject widely studied in school books. A fact that proves that reality has not changed so much over the time.
Extremely shocking, the film provokes much reflection on the situation that blacks still face. Prejudiced looks and racist comments are as overwhelming as any physical violence the film might show. Inspiring in view of hard times to come, the film points to an exit, betting on more human relations that do not distinguish color, religion or social level.
