Advice and beautiful playing cards are taking the “foryou” from Tiktok. The various card drawing videos are capturing the attention of users, but what is Tarot? Are these readings reliable? Do these cards really read the future? The 18-year-old Gabriela Rueda (@jacarepaguaa), a content creator of TikTok, who started studying Tarot two years ago during the pandemic, explains everything we need to know.

What does it mean?

Tarot is an intuitive practice of knowing yourself and knowing the environment you are living in right now. You use a bit of your intuition, a bit of the circumstances of your routine and also the energies that are passing around you on your behalf to know more of what is waiting for you and what is implied, between the lines, in the middle of your life” she says.

According to studies by tarot card historian Tom Tadfor Little, this practice has been done since the 15th century, and over time the trials and the format of the cards have changed. Today the tarot deck consists of 78 cards divided into two groups: major arcana with 22 cards and minor arcana with 56 cards.

Gabriela explains that the cards theoretically read the future, because everything that the tarot shows is already written in the lines of life, so everything is already there waiting for you. However, the tarot’s answer will change depending on the decision you make.

Tarot Consultation

Tarot consultation works like reading card sessions with questions and answers and the time of each session depends on the question the client asks the tarot card reader. There are several topics covered such as love, financial, and general advice that encompasses everything. You can ask direct questions about a certain fact or a general question about life. The more explanation and objectivity the question has, the better the answer, Gabriela describes.

For her, the benefit of having a tarot consulting experience is that you can get answers that logic doesn’t tell you and routine doesn’t deliver, so, it’s information that life is not showing you now, but your subconscious is there wanting to tell you.

However, some people ride the wave of what’s hot at the moment and can take advantage of it, so, to differentiate a person who really knows Tarot to one who doesn’t, she said to watch out for the answers the card reader tells you. If the reader tells you what you really want to hear, no negative answers, and especially if this person gets the interpretation of the cards wrong, this person is probably a charlatan.

Beginning the study to learn tarot

If you are interested in the readings and want to do your own, you have to start somewhere. Gabriela recommends researching several books on the subject and not to look for videos on youtube. Instead, she advises, meeting tarot card readers with experience and talking to people who also study it.

She indicates to start the studies with a deck of easy pictures: the Tarot of Marseille, because it contains the original tarot which is simple to understand the illustrations and this helps at the time of understanding the interpretation of the cards.

Practice is essential. You need to understand the interpretation of the cards and know what each one means to be able to understand the general interpretation of them and their whole, so it’s a very interpretative thing and at the time of reading you combine it with a bit of your intuition” she reinforces.

The importance of popularizing Tarot

Gabriela Rueda concludes that the great demand for Tarot on TikTok is a matter of trend that was caused by the popularization, during the pandemic, of ‘WitchTok’, which are videos about Wicca, crystals, energies, among other things. In that way, people also wanted to look and know more about that side.

It is very important to talk about it, because the Tarot has always been a symbol of scams and lies, this was always taken as a prejudice.  Now that young people are focusing on it, people are starting to take it with fewer taboos,”  she highlights.
