As a college student, midterms (well, testing in general) can be stressful. But it doesn’t have to be! When it comes to preparing for things, college students NEED a guide in the “passing” direction. Here are the 8 steps to acing your midterms:
1. “Yes I Can!” Yes, YOU can. If you can think it, you can achieve it. Tell yourself that you are going to pass to rid your mind of any doubt. Confidence is key, and with the right mindset, studying will be a breeze.
2. Who, What, When, Where Schedule your study session! Questions to think about: Are you going to study alone? With another person? With a group of people? Where are you going to study? In your dorm room? In the library? Having an answer to simple details such as these will make the studying process much easier.
3. Clear It Up! In other words, address your concerns IMMEDIATELY. It’s totally normal for college students to get confused. Instead of being ashamed to admit it to professors, TELL THEM. Contrary to popular belief, most professors understand. The last thing you want to be on midterm day is confused! Make sure you have a clear understanding of the material that you’re studying for and you’ll be well on your way to passing.
4. Feed Your Brain Studies have been shown that eating healthy foods such as blueberries, salmon, nuts, and avocados [just to name a few] will aid in better memory, mood, and other brain functions. So, spend a few days before midterms to engage in healthy eating habits, because you are what you eat!
5. Release! Engaging in physical activity such as cardio or meditation can release built up stress and help free the mind of any mental distractions. With a clear mind, focusing solely on acing your midterms will be a piece of cake!
6. Your Timeline Can Wait As we all know, social media can double as our best-friend and our worst enemy. It’s the biggest distraction EVER! Therefore, it is best to stray away from strolling down your Instagram or Twitter timeline when you’ve got a midterm to ace. Don’t fret! You can tweet about it when you’re done studying!
7. Take It Easy Now it’s actually time to put the work in. Listen to a relaxing tune or be in complete silence. Study what you want first and most importantly, pace yourself! Don’t over-do it. Your brain can only take so much.
8. Midterm Day! It’s officially test day. Remember, you’ve prepared for this moment. Take one question at a time and you will be done before you know it. Do your best and worry less!
We’re sure that if you follow these simple and easy steps that you’ll do great on your midterm exams! Don’t stress out, just be confident!
