Valentines Day: the one day out of the year when single people feel even more single. The day is for couples to post cute pictures and show off their rose petal adorned hotel rooms. If you’re going to be single single for Valentines I have just the guide for you.
- Buy yourself something nice
-
Let me be the first to say that girl, you don’t need no man (although one would be nice). If you want that cute teddy bear from Target, get it, queen. Have those Edible Arrangement chocolate-covered strawberries been eyeing you down? Buy them! Did you run across some flowers that smelled divine? Go ahead and buy those roses! It is okay to treat yourself here and there, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to break the bank, even just a little bit.
- Get some much needed you time
-
College is stressful. That is all. We all need a break from the tests, homework, and projects to rejuvenate ourselves. So, I suggest doing something by yourself that will lift your spirits up, or wind them down. Whether that be getting your hair or nails done, or something less pricey like lounging around in your pjs watching Netflix. Just because you don’t have a Valentine doesn’t mean that you should be overlooked. At the end of the day you should always be a priority.
- Makeup tutorials and me time
-
It’s normal for a woman to get all dolled up… and stay at home. So, Valentine’s Day would be no different. Cosmeholics Anonymous, Hey Paris, Jackie Aina, and Alissa Ashley are some of the best black beauty gurus out there. Nussle up with your favorite Anastasia pallet, or Fenty Beauty foundation, and follow a tutorial. It doesn’t necessarily have to be Valentine’s themed, do whatever makes you glow.
- Have a Galentine’s Day
-
In the words of Whodini, “Friends, how many of us have them?” If it weren’t for the extended family we call friends, we probably wouldn’t have made it through some things. Therefore, just like Friendsgiving, Galentines Day would be the perfect time to show them your appreciation and just spend it with your girls. What is Galentine’s Day you ask? The Macmillan Dictionary defines it as “a celebration of female [friendship] invented by the Parks and Recreation character Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, which occurs every year on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day.” Although we’re having it on the 15th, your fave HerCampus chapter, HCCAU, is having our very own Galentine’s Day. You can do things like go out and see the long-anticipated movie The Photograph, or stay in like we are and just enjoy each other’s presence.
