Super Bowl Sunday is rapidly approaching and women seem to be more interested in the sport than ever, rooting for their favorite teams and interacting in the bets that are taking place. Oh and of course the usual, “Ooh look at the uniforms,” “I used to be a cheerleader,” and last but not least the famous “That man is fiinnnne, what is his name and how can I become his wife” but this year seems to be different for this generation of women. We are actually engaged in the game just as much as the men! The only difference is our interpretations of what we believe is going on in the game seems to be wrong, but look no further! This Super Bowl Sunday is going to be the new and improved, life changing game of the year in which men might actually be afraid of how much information we have all learned so quickly.
Most women are not taught certain terms like “pick” and “first down.” We’ve heard them before but we need to become educated on what exactly those terms mean.
Of course, if you’re watching the television, you know what is going on, this colored jersey made a touchdown, this colored jersey got a flag, however, the in-between is what has women yelling WHAT HAPPENED? Then starts the argument of “you don’t even know what’s going on, stop acting like you understand or care.”
This is the year 2017 and it’s time to fight back and be MORE educated than the men on Superbowl Sunday!
A simple rundown would be a touchdown is worth six points but here’s where some of the in-between begins…
Where does the team’s ability to score 3 points come from?
- A field goal attempt. If the team has not already scored, then one of the players attempts to kick the football through the tall yellow field goal and if it’s good, the team earns 3 points.
What are conversion attempts where they score 1 or 2 points?
- The offense may attempt a field goal kick which is worth 1 point.
- The offense may attempt to re-advance the ball into the opponent’s end zone for a two-point conversion worth 2 points.
What is first and second down? Is there a “last down?”
- Each time the offense gets the ball, there are four downs, or chances, in which to gain 10 yards. If the offensive team successfully moves the ball 10 or more yards, it earns a first down and another set of four downs. If the offense fails to gain 10 yards, it loses possession of the ball.
Some quick pointers would be to do research before watching or during the game. Know which team has done better all season and then choose a team to go for. If you truly do not care for football but are tired of being put down for not knowing what is going on, choose the team that everyone is against and prove them wrong! Throw out statistics of why and how you know the team you’re going for will win. Even if the team you are going for does not win, at least you had knowledge of the game.
It’s time to show these boys what we know! Goodluck ladies!
