Chloe and Halle Bailey, also known as Beyoncé’s proteges, are young, thriving artist who are dominating the industry right now. Chloe x Halle were recently nominated for two Grammys, Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best New Artist, from the album they released in March of 2018, The Kids Are Alright. Not only did they receive two Grammy nominations, but they performed “America the Beautiful” at the 2019 Super Bowl. They also performed their own songs at this year’s Grammy Awards and killed it! Their voices mix perfectly together, creating an outstanding harmony. By listening to them, you can clearly understand why Beyoncé took them under her wing.
In 2015, Beyoncé signed Chloe and Halle to her label, Parkwood Entertainment, and started developing them as young artists. They were discovered by Beyoncé on YouTube; they sang a lot of her covers but their cover of Beyoncé’s song “Pretty Hurts” is what got them noticed. Chloe and Halle are now 20 and 18, and seem to have found their niche with R&B and acting. They’ve both been singing and acting for most of their lives, but more oppurtunites are now coming their way.
Currently, Chloe and Halle star on the hit show, Grown-ish, on Freeform, the spin-off of the other hit show, Black-ish. Alongside Yara Shahidi, they play the hilarious twins, Jazz and Sky, who tell it like it is and are devoted to being track stars. Grown-ish follows the lives of Zoey (Yara Shahidi) and her friends as they navigate through the ups and downs of being college students.
But before they landed roles on Grown-ish, both had roles in other movies such as The Last Holiday and Let It Shine. Chloe had other roles too, including Meet the Browns, Gospel Hill, and The Fighting Temptations, where she ironically played young Beyoncé. I’m sure we will be seeing more of them on our tv screens.
Chloe and Halle were also featured on Essence’s digital cover, highlighting Black Women in Music. They are literally shining on this cover, and that’s exactly what they’ve been doing lately. I’m interested to see what else is in store for these ladies and with their talents; it will be nothing but great things ahead. If you haven’t already, listen to their album The Kids Are Alright. You won’t regret it.
