Sherace Bartholomew-Calder is a graduating senior with phenomenal plans for the future. My conversation with her included her experiences at CAU, favorite songs, a new car and more!Â
H.C: What are some last-minute goals you plan to do before you graduate?
S.B.C: I would like my GPA to go to a 3.75 by the time I graduate and another goal I would like to have is to enjoy my last semester of college.
H.C: What is one of your best and worst memories while being in college?
S.B.C: My best memory is finding my friends and all the experiences I had wouldn’t be the same without them. The worst experience I had was with a professor also during sophomore year somebody stole my test and took a picture of it with my name on it and then had it circularized around the class without me knowing. Â
H.C: How was the experience of being the Junior class treasurer?
S.B.C: It was a difficult time in my life. When I ran for junior class treasurer, I didn’t know what was to come. That summer before school started I lost my stepfather. So, when I came back from the summer my mindset wasn’t really where it should have been. I always apologize to the junior class because I could have given them more than me. But it was still fun getting to know the student body. And able to be a part of the decision-making process for our junior class and being able to see when people put their minds together what can be done.
H.C: What are you most excited for after you graduate?
S.B.C: I’m excited to travel more and get out more than I already have. Traveling is something my mother has instilled in me.
H.C: Deloitte?
S.B.C: It’s a consulting firm. I like to call it “Olivia Polks”. So, it plays on who I like to call myself- Sherace Polk- i.e. my Instagram name. Basically, they come and solve the problems of the business world. So, after I graduate, I will be working with Deloitte as a full-time position within the technology practice.
H.C: Are you in a relationship currently?
S.B.C: Single
H.C: Nickname?
S.B.C: Racey or Miss Pope
H.C: Zodiac
S.B.C: Aries
H.C: Favorite movie
S.B.C: Grease
H.C: Top favorite songs
S.B.C: “Schoolin Life” Beyoncé, “Heartbreaker” Mariah Carey Ft. Jay-Z, “Jam” Kevin Gates, “Illest B. Alive” Wale, “Wine Slow” Gyptian, “No Weapon” Fred Hammond, & “Fire and Desire” Drake
H.C: What’s your favorite 90s jam?
S.B.C: “Heartbreaker” Mariah Carey Ft. Jay-Z
H.C: How has 2017 treated you so far?
S.B.C: It’s been pretty decent. I bought a new car before I had the wind-up windows now I got the PEW PEW! It’s a blessing.
H.C: If you had a chance to redo anything in your life what would it be?
S.B.C: My freshman year of CAU. Because I was so concerned about doing the right thing and not being that statistical student who is partying and losing themselves. I knew I wouldn’t lose myself because that’s not my character but I wish I had more fun.
H.C: What has been the most defining moment in your life?
S.B.C: The moment I got a call from Deloitte saying, “We are extending you a full-time offer”.
H.C: What impact do you want to have in the world/community/certain group of people?
S.B.C:  I want to impact the Black and Latino students in high school. In New York, it’s a big melting pot, living in NY people think you have to stay in NY city. But you don’t, you can explore and reach out. We stifle our conscious and creativity and everything about us because we live in New York city and can everything here. You have the whole world to explore. Out of the two hundred of us that graduated only five or ten of us went away to college. A lot of the times the problem was money. But my advice to them is, as long as you have a will, God will make a way. You can do it, you have to put your mind to it. If someone tells you no, there’s always someone else who will tell you yes.
H.C: I heard that you’ve made your own hair products?
S.B.C: I’ve made my own Flaxseed gel. I’ve made an edge control but it was kind of a fail because it was greasy but it turned out to be a great lip balm which is very nourishing and it has a nice minty tingle. And I made my own hair oil mixture and deep conditioners.             Â
H.C: If you won the lottery what would you do with it?
S.B.C: Put my money aside for my brothers’ college fund. After that, I would fix my grandmother’s house in New York. Finally, I would pay off my parent’s debts.
H.C: If you could spend the day with two people who have died whether it’s a family member, friend, or celebrity who would it be and what would y’all do?
S.B.C: My grandmother and we would be in the kitchen. That was her favorite place. Her official occupation was a chef. So, some of those recipes she has in her head she never wrote down. The second person would be Coretta Scott King. I would want to talk to her about how was it living at that time as a Black woman in the community with your husband being such a vital part of today’s society, which she probably didn’t know but how was it alone.
That’s it, you guys! Stay tuned for the next interview! HCXO
