Flooding in your area? Fear not – Facebook is here to help!
The UK have been hit with flooding nation-wide, and many people have been left with their homes and streets destroyed by the floods.
With a record-breaking 486.8mm (19.16 inches) of rainfall this winter, it is officially the UK’s Wettest Winter since 1910. The wet weather has caused subways to flood, extensive damage to homes and buildings, as well as businesses. Streets have been closed off due to dangerous flooding also. Many rivers have broken their banks due to the stress of the excess rain, causing high streets and roads to be flooded by the overflowing water.
So what’s Facebook got to do with flooding?
Facebook have launched a box-link on our News Feeds, asking if we have been affected by the flooding, and if so there is help.
Facebook are putting its users in contact with volunteers all over the UK. The company, who recently bought out What’s App for $19 billion, have an agreement with www.floodvolunteers.co.uk. The volunteers are based all over England and some parts of Scotland, with hundreds of volunteers ready and waiting to help. They are giving up their free time to help those in need.
