Good news, Katniss Everdeen fans: there’s a new adaptation of The Hunger Games coming soon.
The best-seller book trilogy has already been adapted into a blockbuster film series. And now it’s moving to the theatre.
It has been announced that a stage show version of Katniss’s story will launch by summer 2016. And the “innovative” show will even get its own custom-built theatre next to London’s Wembley Stadium.
The show will be the creation of Robin de Levita, a Broadway producer behind a Dutch stage show about World War Two diarist Anne Frank. Mr de Levita said of the move that the theatre can “bring the many meaningful layers of Suzanne Collins’ writing to life”.
Lionsgate, the company behind the massively popular film franchise, are supportive of the new adaptation.
Tim Phelan, their chief marketing officer, said it would offer mans a “uniquely immersive experience”.
Neither further details of the production nor plans for the new theatre have yet been released.
The Hunger Games has been a run-away success in many forms.Sales of the dystopian tale following the fortunes of heroine Katniss Everdeen have even surpassed the entire Harry Potter book series on Amazon.com.
The trilogy has sold more than 65 million copies in America alone. And the movies have taken over $1.5bn or £946m worldwide, with latest instalment The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 due for release in cinemas later this month.
And with no sign of the franchise’s popularity waning, it seems the odds for the stage show will be ever in its favour.
