5 Reasons Mindy Kaling is your Spirit Animal

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.
  1. “The Mindy Project” is one of the best shows ever!

If you have not binged watched “The Mindy Project” on Hulu you are missing out. Mindy Kaling is amazing as Mindy Lahiri — the doctor we all wish we had. Not only is Mindy the main character on the show, she is also the creator and writer — can you say girl power?

2. Her books will change your life.

Mindy recently released her second book “Why Not Me” in which she tells her first hand account of joining a sorority, dating and working in entertainment. If you are looking for a great book to read over fall break by an inspiring woman, Mindy Kaling is the way to go.

3. She gives the best interviews ever.

If you have ever watched interviews with celebrities you know sometimes they are much different than you expected, but not Mindy. Be sure to watch the Ellen interview where she explains why one night stands are not practical in reality.

4. She is a role model for women.

In a world where women are constantly being judged based on their appearance, Mindy shows that women are more than their dress size. Mindy shows that any woman can be fashionable and beautiful as long as she is confident and loves herself.

5. She says what we all think.

Mindy is not afraid to say what we are all thinking. If you watched her on “The Office” or “The Mindy Project,” you know her characters always tell it like it is. This not only makes us love Mindy, but it shows that sometimes a girl has to be honest.

Mindy Kaling is an inspiration and my spirit animal and I am sure if you watch “The Mindy Project” you will see why.

My name is Lauren, I am a recent transfer student to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I previously attended George Mason University, where I was a member of PRSSA, Gamma Phi Beta International sorority, and Golden Key International Honour Society. I grew up in North Carolina, but spent a year in-between my freshman and sophomore year of college living in Bratislava, Slovakia with my family. During my time abroad I had an internship with The Slovak Atlantic Commission and was able to work in a multi-cultural work environment. I also traveled throughout Europe while I was living in Slovakia, some of my favorite places I visited are London, Cannes, Zurich, Budapest, and Krakow. My goal is to one-day work as an entertainment publicist, I attended the 66th Festival de Cannes with my Cannes Cinephiles Accreditation. While at Cannes I met many industry leaders and knew this was the career for me. I am also a student member of The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. I look forward to the new adventures that await me as a transfer student at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
