Everyone knows that finals week is the absolute worst time of the semester. So, I used Winter Break as a time to pick up the shambles that I thought were my life. Here are the five things I learned as I got my life in order.
1. Reflection is necessary.
Although you may not want to relive those embarrassing stories or horrible grades that marked Fall Semester, you have to so that you don’t make the same mistakes again! To become the best person you can be, you have to understand what not to do (and recall what did go well).
2. You can’t force everything.
If you’re like me, you go after what you want no matter what the obstacles. However, some obstacles aren’t meant to be overcome. Being mature involves understanding that everything isn’t supposed to work out the way you envision. What’s meant for you will always be for you.
3. Embrace who you are.
You only get one self so you might as well love that self! If you don’t like something about yourself, either learn to love it or change it!
4. Relax!
It’s so easy to always be on the go from hanging out with friends to studying in the library and everything inbetween. In college there is always something to do! Even over break I found myself working too many hours and being on the go. Taking time to recuperate mentally, physically, and even emotionally is always a plus. Don’t take those lazy Saturdays in bed watching Netflix for granted.
5. Do what makes you happy.
Just like you only have one self, you only have one life. This means that you should live for yourself and not for other people. Sometimes it can be so easy to get caught up in the lives of friends and family alike, but in the end your happiness is the most important.
