“Get ready for the most dramatic season of The Bachelor… EVER!” — Chris Harrison in literally every season of any show in the franchise.

I am a huge fan of The Bachelor, and thanks to the “Game of Roses” podcast, I am deep in the pit. I guess I should explain. “The pit” is defined on a “Game of Roses” Reddit page as: “not so much an actual place, but a space that your spirit might occupy.” You know that you have descended into the pit whenever your life is entirely surrounded by bachelor content, and you start to analyze every single piece of “parasocial play” by the players in the game. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that The Bachelor is a game, and the contestants on the show are the players.

The hosts of the podcast use a unique language to talk about the beloved game, aka The Bachelor. Here are some of the notable terms in the pit vocabulary:

  • DLH: Dark Lord Harrison, or host Chris Harrison
  • PTC: Personal Tragedy Card, a tragic event that has happened to you or someone adjacent to you that you share with the lead during one on one time
  • Huju: Hug Jump, when a player runs towards the lead and jumps into a hug with them. Bonus points if there is a double ankle lock during the Huju.
  • 4TRR/4TWR: For the right reasons/For the wrong reasons

There are many other terms that hosts, Pace Case and Bachelor Clues, use in the podcast to analyze the gameplay. Once you start listening to the podcast, you pick up on the terminology very quickly. I liked watching The Bachelor before I got into bachelor podcasts, but since I have started religiously listening to both “Game of Roses” and “Chatty Broads” with Bekah and Jess, I have been way more into the show, and I watch it through a more analytical lens.

I encourage everyone to give “Game of Roses” and “Chatty Broads” a listen, even if you are not a super fan of The Bachelor like me. I am so deep in the pit, and the pit is open to all.

My favorite sport to watch is The Bachelor. Praise be Lord Harrison.
